abstract: The focus of this workshop will be to review the most recent developments in turbomachinery broadband noise. It will provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of the latest techniques for both the prediction and measurement of broadband turbomachinery noise and provide scientists and engineers from industry, research establishments and universities with the opportunity to present new results, exchange ideas and discuss directions of future research.

abstract: The annual meetings of the Lunar Exploration Analysis Group (LEAG), International Lunar Conference 2008, the 10th ILEWG Conference on Exploration and Utilization, and the Space Resources Roundtable (SRR) will be combined and held October 28–31, 2008, at the Radisson Resort at the Port, in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The meeting is planned to coincide with the October 28, 2008, launch of the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO: including the Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite – LCROSS) from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The LRO mission objectives are to advance the Vision for Space Exploration by using high-resolution mapping, including topography, and confirming the presence or absence of water ice in a permanently shadowed crater at either the Moon’s North or South Pole.

abstract: Euclid is an ESA mission to map the dark Universe. It has been selected in 2007 for study as one of the candidates of ESAs Cosmic Vision programme for the medium size mission (M1) launch slot planned for 2017.

The mission will investigate the distance-redshift relationship and the evolution of cosmic struc¬tures by measuring shapes and redshifts of galaxies and clusters of galaxies. The statistical study of structures in a large volume of the Universe requires a survey of the entire extra¬galactic sky. The mission is centred on weak lensing and baryonic acoustic oscillations, two powerful and robust probes of the Dark Universe.

Euclid will address key fundamental cosmological questions. Is dark energy merely a cosmological constant, as first discussed by Einstein, or is it a new kind of field that evolves dynamically with the expansion of the universe? Alternatively, is dark energy instead a manifestation of a break-down of General Relativity and deviations from the law of gravity? What are the nature and properties of dark matter? What are the initial conditions which seed the formation of cosmic structure?

The mission will yield an unprecedented astronomy legacy for the 21st century: diffraction limited visual and NIR maps of the entire extragalactic sky with spectroscopic redshifts for a large fraction of the galaxies.

abstract: This bi-annual event held on alternate years in collaboration with its sister event in the USA - The Aerospace Mechanisms Symposium - the European Space Mechanisms and Tribology Symposium, ESMATS, regularly attracts around 200 space mechanism designers and engineers, space scientists and satellite project and programme managers from around the world. ESMATS 2007 in Liverpool, England, attracted delegates from most of the countries of Europe, The United States, Japan, China, India, Brazil, Australia and Canada to name but a few. It will be the first time in its history since the ESMATS was originally held in Neuchatel, Switzerland in 1983 that this prestigious 3-day symposium will be held in Austria, where it is being hosted in the city of Vienna, organised by Austrian Aerospace.
