abstract: In order to be effective and efficient in exploring common themes and methodologies across the CHESS disciplines, we have set out a fixed set of themes for each discipline along which we will explore commonalities. The set themes, across the CHESS disciplines are as follows:

  • Computer Science: quantum computing; quantum entanglement; fuzzy logic; computer algebras; computing in society
  • Humanities: sociology of economics; sociology of financial markets; metaphors and management of organizations; science and history
  • Engineering, Education, Economics: preference modelling; rational beliefs; rational expectations; issues relating to modelling `economic man'; physics and social science (f.i. econophysics)
  • Physics, Mathematics and related Sciences: complex systems, structures and symmetries in physical and life sciences, epistemology, philosophy of science, metaphors in science; statistical methods in theory and experiment
  • Social Sciences: testing for physics phenomena in human behaviour; issues in mathematical psychology; modelling of preference paradoxes; sources of knowledge; alternatives to stochastic analysis in modelling economic phenomena; partial differential equations in social science.
