03 Mar 2009 → 08 Mar 2009; Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

abstract: Engineering Conferences International, in technical co-sponsorship with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, is sponsoring the seventh conference in the series on 'Polymer Reaction Engineering.' The conference will take place May 3-8, 2009 at the Crowne Plaza/Brock Hotel in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.

This conference provides a forum for presentation of emerging technologies and scientific advancements in the area of polymer reaction engineering. The speakers and attendees come from several sectors of academia and industry or other research organizations. This format has been adopted for the last six PRE conferences and found to be very successful.

The program chair is Professor Alexander Penlidis (University of Waterloo); co-chairs are Dr. John R. Richards (DuPont) and Professor Marc A. Dubé (University of Ottawa). The scientific committee includes Professors Giuseppe Storti (ETH, Switzerland), Donald Sundberg (Univ. of New Hampshire, USA)

26 May 2009 → 29 May 2009; Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada

abstract: The 2nd Georgian Bay International Conference on Bioinorganic Chemistry (abbreviated as CanBIC) continues the tradition established by the International Conference on Biological Inorganic Chemistry (ICBIC) that takes place around the world every two years of bringing together scientists researching the vitally important biological chemistry of metals. This research concerns the metabolism of essential and toxic metals, the synthetic mimics and models of metals in biological molecules, synthetic approaches to duplicate biological function, the mechanistic details of metal function in biology, effects and therapeutic response to the toxicity of metals, metals as therapeutic agents. As is clear, these research areas touch on all aspects of the human life, from nutrition to the environment to medical intervention.
CanBIC involes 3 complete days of talks - up to 80 in all- given by world leaders in their firleds.

topics: porphyrins and phthalocyanines, heme proteins, metallothioneins, DFT calculations, synchrotron spectroscopy, EXAFS, XANES, resonance Raman spectroscopy, copper, zinc, cadmium, mercury, arsenic, iron, staphylococcus aureus, magnetic circular dichroism spectroscopy
