	abstract: The symposium is planned to be an international meeting to celebrate the centennial of the famous Ernst Rutherford paper on the backscattering of alpha particles. In this context it is expected to encourage the exchange among researchers and professors of different countries in subjects related to Rutherford Backscattering (RBS) significance and applications. Plenary lectures as well as oral and poster communications will be organized. There will be also a school on Rutherford backscattering principles
