abstract: This course provides an overview on the main concepts of radiation protection and their implementation by standards and practical measures. The focus is put on a balanced presentation of current knowledge about biological effects of radiation, international protection requirements, measurement techniques and estimation of health risks from radioactive exposures. The further provides fundamentals for the following course about the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi NPP.

The course is held in English. It has been developed for junior staff in nuclear organizations and for university graduates who have recently entered or are preparing to enter the nuclear industry.
