29 Oct 2008; London, United Kingdom

abstract: Many meetings on sustainable energy are organised simply to outline the problems faced by mankind in changing our approach to energy production and conservation so that carbon emission is reduced. This meeting aims to offer a more practical approach where new scientific ventures are beginning to give some solutions to those problems. The meeting is aimed at university and industrial scientists and engineers working in the sustainable energy field. Sustainable energy is one of the main areas identified by research councils for support and the meeting will give an opportunity for academics and industrialists to seek new collaborations for fundamental and applied research in this area. For this reason, speakers will all give a non-specialist level overview of their work and outline areas where further work is urgently required. A long luncheon break, a Poster display and short 5 minute talks by representatives from energy-based companies will be included in the day’s events.

12 Nov 2008; London, United Kingdom

abstract: Carbon Capture and Storage is the most exciting proposition for reducing emissions and tackling climate change across a broad range of industries. Institute members throughout the world are working on challenging R&D projects to bring the technology into commercial reality. In order for the technology to develop engineers need to take the lead in ensuring the public accept this emerging technology by addressing key issues with carbon dioxide capture, transmission and sub surface sequestration. The aim of this seminar is to explore the technologies available to design power plants for carbon capture, the technologies for the capture process itself and the provisions will allow carbon capture to be installed at a later date, transportation options for carbon dioxide and the technology and options for storage of carbon dioxide.
