abstract: Bioscience is changing rapidly, becoming more quantitative and predictive in nature, with increasing inputs from the physical sciences, engineering, computation and mathematics. At the core of this wave of change is the development of new technology and biophysical methods, spanning nanotechnology, structural analysis, chemical biology, computational biology and analytical science. The changing nature of bioscience is reflected in the rapid growth of fields such as systems and synthetic biology, which are based on precise analytical approaches as well as rigorous design and modelling.
