| 1. | [ID=242836]ICBF 2009 — International Conference on Challenges in Biotechnology and Food Technology | | 26 Aug 2009 → 28 Aug 2009; Chidambaram, India | | abstract: As mankind becomes more sophisticated and ambitious, the natural resources are overused and we face a number of problems such as hunger in different parts of the world, pollution and pollution related diseases, global warming and the one that has more direct effect on our lives, the non-availability and cost of fuels. Breakthroughs in biochemical engineering and food technology help address few of these problems and understand others. We have genetically engineered crops with improved yields and better pest resistance, biofuels that would replace the depleting fossil fuel supplies sans environmental hazards by maintaining the carbon balance, enzyme based detergents that replace the conventional chemicals that pollute the water bodies and so on. Research on marine biotechnology gives ideas on drug discovery, new materials, raw materials for processing industries and increasing productivity of seafood. Extension of these research findings from the laboratory to the industry poses a number of problems that should be tackled successfully and efficiently. Scientists working in the field of biochemical engineering and food technology have the vision for a world free of hunger, diseases and pollution. This international conference intends to bring together academic and industrial researchers into fruitful deliberations on advanced technologies that aim at successful handling of the challenges in these areas for improving the quality of life. | | topics: Bioprocess Engineering, Biocatalysis, Bioreactors and biokinetics, Biomaterials, Biomolecular Engineering, Protein Engineering, Biotechnology Applications in Medicine and Health, Bio-Drug Discovery, Nanobiotechnology, Bioenvironmental Engineering,Bioenergy, Ecological roles of bioactive compounds, Biodiversity conservation, Marine biosecurity and biodefense, Marine biochemicals, Biotechnology approaches to diseases in aquaculture, Ethics in Biotechnology, Food and Process Engineering - emerging technology, Implementation of lean manufacturing principles and cost reduction throughout the process, Food microbiology, antimicrobials & sanitizers, Produce disinfection and antimicrobials, Food chemistry - Antioxidants and phytochemicals, proteins and enzymes, food polymers and carbohydrates, food process engineering, Storage, processing and packaging, Toxicology and safety evaluation, Nonthermal processing for improving food safety, Modeling and simulation | | weblink: http://annamalaiuniversity.ac.in/conference_tech_icbf2009.htm |
