Meetings/Workshops on Geometry and Topology in Italy

Conference-Service.com offers, as part of our business activities, a directory of upcoming scientific and technical meetings. The calendar is published for the convenience of conference participants and we strive to support conference organisers who need to publish their upcoming events. Although great care is being taken to ensure the correctness of all entries, we cannot accept any liability that may arise from the presence, absence or incorrectness of any particular information on this website. Always check with the meeting organizer before making arrangements to participate in an event!

Meeting organizers can submit meetings free of charge for inclusion into the listing.

1.go to top of page[ID=328248]Intensive period on: 'Configuration Spaces: Geometry, Combinatorics and Topology'
02 May 2010 → 30 Jun 2010; Centro di Ricerca Matematica Ennio De Giorgi, Pisa, Italy

abstract: First Announcement: The importance of configuration spaces has been growing steadily in central areas of mathematics often related to theoretical physics, hyperplane arrangements, and combinatorics. Despite their simple definition, configuration spaces admit important, broad applications with deep classical ties to knot theory, homotopical algebra, the theory of operands as well as conformal field theory. The theory of configuration spaces also has links to the study of low dimensional topology, and combinatorics. The aim of this initiative is to bring together in Pisa some of the leading experts in these different, but significantly overlapping areas, and to inform on the current state of the art, also promoting interaction among experts in order to foster new developments. This period includes minicourses, seminars, and two workshops May 24-26 and June 21-25 and is part of the CRM PISA 2010 scientific programme.

16 Jun 2010 → 21 Jun 2010; Vietri sul Mare Salerno, Italy

abstract: The power of synthesis of Geometry, which led in the past to the formulation of 'grand unification theories', has got an essential role nowadays, especially because of the growing fragmentation of knowledge due to scientific progress. In order to avoid too big a dispersion, geometers need a constant dialogue. Therefore, a stable experience of personal meetings, apart from telematic interchanges, cannot be renounced. Current Geometry was born to allow a periodic update about actual progresses in Geometry (and its applications) on the international scene.
