1.Chemical Development & Scale-Up in the Fine Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industries
 Dates 06 Mar 2012 → 08 Mar 2012
[ID=433430] Go to top of page
 LocationFlorence, Italy
Abstract This three-day course, written and presented by highly experienced process chemists from the pharmaceutical and fine chemical industry, provides a comprehensive overview of this fascinating and important element of the chemical industry. A logical investigative approach to all aspects of chemical development is described, with an abundance of case studies from literature, conferences and private communications. The multi-disciplinary nature of chemical development is emphasised, from the initial interaction with laboratory research scientists to the vital partnership with chemical engineers in the pilot plant and in the production environment. The lectures are interspersed with interactive problem sessions, enabling participants to share in the problem solving and troubleshooting typically experienced during chemical development.

2.New Antibacterial Discovery & Development
 Dates 15 Apr 2012 → 20 Apr 2012
[ID=454673] Go to top of page
 LocationLucca (Barga), Italy
 Organizer Gordon Research Conferences
Abstract This Gordon Research Conference will bring together researchers from academia and industry and representatives of regulatory agencies to discuss critical issues in the antibiotic discovery and development process.

Antibiotics, more than any other medicines, have improved the life expectancy of mankind, however, multi-drug resistance has become common in pathogenic bacteria and the “magic bullets” are losing efficacy. Recent reports on the occurrence of panresistant gram-negative strains, i.e. strains resistant to every registered antibacterial drug, indicate that we are on the verge to lose the battle, taking us back to the pre-antibiotic era. There is world-wide consensus that the medical need for novel antiinfective drugs is enormous and that we are running out of time. Many achievements of modern medicine, not only treatment of infectious diseases, depend on the availability of efficacious antibiotics, still, the antibacterial development pipeline is drying up and the number of new drugs reaching the market is alarmingly low. There are many reasons for this at all levels of the discovery and development process. Major investments into research and technologies did not pay off; socioeconomic considerations together with regulatory hurdles have prompted big pharma to exit the field and innovative biotech companies were confronted with problems beyond their control. Answers are needed as to where and how we can find new lead compounds with unprecedented activities? How to bridge substantial gaps between academic and industry with translational research? How to make antibiotic development a profitable business?

The “New Antibacterial Discovery & Development" GRC seeks to analyze the current situation and to identify answers. It will provide an international forum for researchers of multiple backgrounds to exchange ideas and discuss their views of the problems, to present most recent discoveries and technologies and thus to contribute to the future availability of life-saving antibiotic drugs.

3.Secrets of Batch Process Scale-Up
 Dates 02 May 2012 → 04 May 2012
[ID=433659] Go to top of page
 LocationMilan, Italy
Abstract Course Aims & Objectives To teach the practical aspects of designing a scaleable fine-chemical batch process and successfully implementing it at the kilo-lab and pilot plant scale, through an examination of the effects of large-scale operating methods and equipment limitations on process safety, operability, yield, selectivity and product quality.

4.The Scale-Up of Chemical Processes
 Dates 09 Jul 2012 → 11 Jul 2012
[ID=433494] Go to top of page
 LocationLake Maggiore, Italy
Abstract Whether you are developing a brand new process or optimizing an existing synthetic route, the aims are always the same: ' Achieving greater process efficiency, yield and throughput. ' Eliminating unsafe and non-green processes and materials. ' Decreasing the costs and number of steps involved. Since the first conference in 1994, The Scale-Up of Chemical Processes has become the major international forum for the discussion of all these aspects of scale-up and more in the pharmaceutical, fine chemical and allied fields. Key speakers will present case studies and examples of some of the pitfalls and problems they encountered and how they overcame them.
