abstract: The timely seminar will examine key elements of the Government’s science strategy, Science and Society, as the five Expert Groups tasked with delivering its key objectives begin work. Sessions will examine how a more science literate society can be created, the strengths and weaknesses of the current system of science education including how the quality of science learning in schools can be improved and student take-up of science subjects, especially at A Level can be increased. The seminar will also look at how more young people can be encouraged to choose science as a career and examine the skills needs of the science industry and the contribution science makes to the UK economy

abstract: The Klein project is an initiative of the International Commision for Mathematical Instruction (ICMI), the maximum international institution regarding Math Education, inspired by Felix Kleins' famous book 'Elementary Mathematics from an Advanced Standpoint', published one century ago. The project is intended as a stimulus for mathematics teachers, to help them make connections between the mathematics they teach, or can be asked to teach, and the field of mathematics, taking into account the evolution of this field over the last century. As part of the project, several 'Klein conferences' are going to take place around the World. CIEM will organize a Klein conference in Spain in June 2010. Several members of the design team, an international panel of eight people chaired by Bill Barton, will attend.

abstract: A professional development conference for PreK-12 grade teachers, college professors, and administrators led by national scholars who will address "Culturally Relevant Teaching Strategies and Diverse Learning Styles" focusing on cultural proficiency and cultural competence. Using brain based instructional strategies; workshops will explore how to create a classroom community that honors every voice.

In addition, the workshops will focus on culture and learning and its importance as well as considerations that teachers and school administrators can take into account as they meet the needs of a more diverse student population.

Participants will use strategies to improve academic achievement across the disciplines. During the workshop participants will be able to identify the strategies modeled by the presenter, reflect on instructional practices, and practice culturally relevant teaching strategies to implement in their classrooms and schools so that they can continue their professional growth and development.
