Meetings/Workshops on Applied Maths: Dynamic Systems, Control and Automation in the Netherlands

Conference-Service.com offers, as part of our business activities, a directory of upcoming scientific and technical meetings. The calendar is published for the convenience of conference participants and we strive to support conference organisers who need to publish their upcoming events. Although great care is being taken to ensure the correctness of all entries, we cannot accept any liability that may arise from the presence, absence or incorrectness of any particular information on this website. 03 Nov 2008 → 07 Nov 2008; EURANDOM, Eindhoven, Netherlands

abstract: This workshop aims at gathering people from various areas dealing with probabilistic aspects of the occurence and the repetition of rare events. The following themes will be covered: Entropy, hitting and return times in ergid theory; Sequence alignment and occurrence of words in biological sequences; Occurrence and matching of patterns in stochastic processes and random fields; Pattern matching and data compression in information theory. There will be three minicourses (ergodic theory, information theory and mathematical biology) and around 15 one hour lectures.

01 Dec 2008 → 05 Dec 2008; Leiden , Netherlands
organizer: Lorentz Center

abstract: Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser Theory of is a major part of Dynamical Systems Theory, dealing with the typical occurrence of quasi-periodicity in dynamical systems. Originally this research comes from celestial mechanics and is concerned with problems like the stability of the Solar System. From the beginning it was clear that the scope is more general, also involving the Ergodicity Hypothesis in Statistical Mechanics and many other things.
