1.Workshop on Coherent Energy Transport and Optimization in Photosynthesis
 Dates 13 Dec 2012 → 15 Dec 2015
[ID=517846] Go to top of page
 LocationSingapore, Singapore
Abstract Mother Nature never ceases to astonish us with numerous elegant designs that have been perfected by millennia of evolution. For example, green plants and purple bacteria are known to effectively collect solar energy with pigments and transmit it almost instantaneously into reaction centers, where subsequent electron transfer reactions convert nearly all the solar energy into chemical energy. The remarkable efficiency of energy transfer in light-harvesting systems has inspired many scientists to emulate its design to harness solar energy. Unraveling the mechanisms governing photosynthesis undoubtedly holds a key to numerous technological breakthroughs.
 Topics photosynthesis, quantum coherence

2.Shape-Responsive Fluorophores
 Dates 10 Jun 2013 → 14 Jun 2013
[ID=532125] Go to top of page
 LocationTelluride, CO, United States
Abstract Molecular fluorophores may be minimally or dramatically affected by their environment. When the effect of the environment is significant, the shape, intensity, and decay rate of the fluorescence can provide valuable information about the nature of that environment. Nevertheless, most fluorophores undergo modest responses upon changes in environment, and such changes are not always readily understood on the basis of ordinary environmental interactions. The workshop will be aimed at how the sensitivity of the photophysics/photochemistry of various chromophores and their fluorescence recovery can be manipulated to obtain new probes of wide utility in photophysics and fluorescent sensors. The development and extension of this topological responsiveness forms the major aim of the workshop.
Topics fluorescence, spectroscopy, host-guest, kinetics, DNA, proteins, ligands

Abstract Fourier transform spectrometry is the spectroscopic technique of choice in all research areas that require high accuracy, sensitivity, and resolution, and it continues to grow in application and uti lization. This is especially true for new research areas, such as meteorology and chemical microscopy, where such attributes are mandatory. Furthermore, newly developed imaging spectrometers are broadening the range of FTS applications. This FTS Topical Meeting is the only international conference on Fourier transform spectrometry covering the whole range of FTS technology and applications. Its scope will include laboratory spectroscopy, Earth and planetary remote sensing, and astronomy as well as new instrumental developments.
