| 2.Chemistry and Physics of Graphitic Carbon Materials | | Dates | 17 Jun 2012 → 22 Jun 2012 | [ID=454972] | | Location | Davidson, NC, United States | | Organizer | Gordon Research Conferences | | Abstract | Carbon materials play an extremely important role in our society. They not only constitute the largest supply of energy we use today (i.e., coal) but also are the bases of many important technologies ranging from pencils, adsorbents, and metal strengtheners, to batteries and many others. Recent studies on graphitic carbon, including fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, and graphene, have further revealed novel optical and electrical properties, making it possible to use them for new applications in renewable energy as well as microelectronics. Moreover, there are many novel and exciting phenomena in these materials such as molecular magnetism, catalysis, many-body and relativistic quantum mechanics, etc. Fundamental challenges associated with these materials have hindered our ability to understand and exploit them for various applications. These include precise structural control, characterization, and large-scale synthesis, which require the collective efforts of scientists in multiple disciplines to overcome. This conference will highlight the urgency for research on graphitic carbon materials and gather scientists in physics, chemistry, and engineering to tackle the challenges in this field. The conference will focus on scalable synthesis, characterization, novel physical and electronic properties, structure-properties relationship studies, and new applications of the carbon materials. | | Weblink | http://www.grc.org/programs.aspx?year=2012&program=graphitic | | Related subject(s) | Condensed Matter Physics and Materials |
| 3.Membranes: Materials & Processes | | Dates | 29 Jul 2012 → 03 Aug 2012 | [ID=455654] | | Location | New London, NH, United States | | Organizer | Gordon Research Conferences | | Abstract | The GRC 'Membranes: Materials and Processes' is an interdisciplinary and synergistic meeting that has gained significant international recognition, attracting leading experts on membranes and other related areas from around the world. The 2012 GRC will maintain the past tradition to include new and exciting aspects of material science, chemistry, chemical engineering, and computer simulation, with participants from academia, industry and national laboratories. This meeting will focus on cutting edge developments in membrane science for addressing several grand challenges facing our society, in particular related to energy, water, and health. Discussions will revolve around new membrane structures, new characterization techniques, the role of advanced membranes and membrane-based processes in sustainability/environment, membranes in water processes, and membranes for biological and life support applications. As usual, the informal nature of the meeting, excellent quality of the oral presentations and posters, and ample opportunity to meet many outstanding colleagues make this an excellent conference for established scientists as well as for students. | | Weblink | http://www.grc.org/programs.aspx?year=2012&program=membmat | | | | | 4.International Conference and Expo on Material science and Engineering | | Dates | 19 Nov 2012 → 21 Nov 2012 | [ID=451717] | | Location | San Antonio, United States | | Abstract | Material Science-2012 is a remarkable event which brings together unique and International academic scientists, leading engineers, universities and industries making the congress a perfect platform to share experience, foster collaborations across industry and academia and evaluate emerging technologies across the globe. Initiation of cross-border co-operations between scientists and institutions will be also facilitated. The International Conference and Expo on Material science and Engineering will schedule and coordinate all meetings with our Editorial Board Members of Journal of Material Science & Engineering and other experts in the Material Science & Engineering field across the World. The scientific program paves a way to gather visionaries through the research talks and presentations and put forward many thought provoking strategies in Material Science.
