| 1.Natural Gas Hydrate Systems — Occurrence and Dynamic Behavior in Hydrates: Past and Present | | Dates | 18 Mar 2012 → 23 Mar 2012 | [ID=454675] | | Location | Ventura, CA, United States | | Organizer | Gordon Research Conferences | | Abstract | 2012 marks the 2nd Gordon Research Conference on Natural Gas Hydrates. The Conference combines cutting-edge presentations on field, experimental, and modeling studies that enhance our understanding of gas hydrates and their interaction with sediments, pore fluids, and the biosphere on pore space to planetary spatial and temporal scales. The meeting emphasizes the occurrences and processes that influence the dynamic systems of present day and palaeo-hydrates, including marine and terrestrial and permafrost gas hydrate systems. The Conference brings together academic, government, and industry researchers from all career stages to a week-long retreat-style meeting. This GRC specifically encourages intensive exchange and discussion of unpublished, state-of-the-art, advances in gas hydrate sciences and allied disciplines. Participants include geoscientists, microbiologists, physicists, and chemists, as well as energy, geotechnical, and chemical engineers. Those not giving an oral presentation will have the opportunity to contribute a poster to the Conference. The scheduled poster sessions, longer-format talks with no concurrent sessions, and extended discussion sessions, together with informal activities are the hallmarks of Gordon Research Conferences. Partial funding towards conference registration costs may be available to some participants. | | Weblink | http://www.grc.org/programs.aspx?year=2012&program=naturalgas |
| 3.ISSF2012 — 10th International Symposium on Supercritical Fluids | | Dates | 13 May 2012 → 16 May 2012 | [ID=450336] | | Location | San Francisco, United States | | Abstract | Discover the versatility of supercritical fluid technology. ISSF 2012 is the most recognized global conference that brings together an international group of world renowned researchers, practitioners, and industrialists who will contribute cutting-edge presentations on emerging applications and processes covering ALL areas of supercritical fluid technologies. The focus of the meeting is to highlight the discovery, development, and production aspects inherent with a wide range of technologies that utilize the unique capabilities of supercritical fluid solvents. This three-day Symposium is structured with parallel sessions packed with plenary, keynote, and contributed talks with poster sessions and exposition. | | Topics | Bioenergy, carbon dioxide, chemical engineering, chromatography, critical fluids, food technology, green chemistry, high pressure, hydrothermal synthesis, ISSF-2012, ISSF 2012, natural products, phase equilibria, separation processes, subcritical fluid, supercritical extraction, supercritical fluids, supercritical water, water, 10th International Symposium on Supercritical Fluids | | Weblink | http://www.ISSF2012.com | | Contact | Janet Cunningham, ISSF 2012 Symposium/Exhibit Manager, Barr Enterprises; Email: janetbarr@aol.com | | Related subject(s) | Exhibitions and Trade Shows in Chemistry; Thermodynamics, Fluid Dynamics and Statistical Physics | | | | | 4.Biogenic Hydrocarbons & the Atmosphere — Reaching across Scales: From the Molecule to the Globe | | Dates | 24 Jun 2012 → 29 Jun 2012 | [ID=455157] | | Location | Lewiston, ME, United States | | Organizer | Gordon Research Conferences | | Abstract | The 2012 Biogenic Hydrocarbons and the Atmosphere Gordon Research Conference will present cutting-edge research of hydrocarbons released by vegetation and their atmospheric impacts. Biogenic hydrocarbons are incredibly important, not only for plant physiology and ecological interactions, but also for atmospheric chemistry and climate. The topics covered in this conference reach from plant biochemistry to canopy-atmosphere interactions to atmospheric chemistry and climate. This multi-disciplinary conference includes the participation of scientists from biology, plant physiology, ecology, chemistry, and atmospheric science. The Conference will bring together a collection of investigators who are at the forefront of their field, and will provide opportunities for junior scientists and graduate students to present their work in poster format and exchange ideas with leaders in the field. Further, a special session will provide a small group of early career scientists to give short oral research presentations. The collegial and inter-disciplinary atmosphere of this Conference, with programmed discussion sessions as well as opportunities for informal gatherings in the afternoons and evenings, provides an excellent venue for scientists from different disciplines to brainstorm and to develop collaborations across scientific fields. | | Weblink | http://www.grc.org/programs.aspx?year=2012&program=biogenic | | Related subject(s) | Biology; Meteorology and Climate Change | | | | | 5.Geochemistry of Mineral Deposits | | Dates | 15 Jul 2012 → 20 Jul 2012 | [ID=455381] | | Location | Andover, NH, United States | | Organizer | Gordon Research Conferences | | Abstract | Despite uncertain economic times for much of the world, prices for critical minerals continue to rise as they are depleted by mining and discovery of new resources becomes more difficult. The 2012 Gordon Conference on the Geochemistry of Mineral Deposits will present a forum to present and discuss new data and ideas on processes that control the formation and location of a wide range of ore deposits, including precious metals, base metals, and other critical elements. Sessions will include lithospheric controls on deposits, magmatic and hydrothermal processes, active hydrothermal systems as analogues to mineral deposits, and distal expressions of large deposits that can guide exploration. Evening sessions will focus on puzzling, controversial and commonly overlooked ore systems. Our goal is to bring together industry, university, and other research geoscientists working on all aspects of geoscience that are relevant to the formation and distribution of major mineral deposits. In addition to attracting leaders and rising stars to present cutting edge research, we will be encouraging students and junior scientists to attend and participate by presenting their work in poster format. This Conference, as past conferences have, presents a truly unique opportunity for geoscientists of various disciplines and career stages to exchange ideas, cultivate relationships, and devise new research directions that will help meet resource needs for future generations. | | Weblink | http://www.grc.org/programs.aspx?year=2012&program=geochem | | Related subject(s) | Mineralogy | | | | | 6.Organic Geochemistry | | Dates | 29 Jul 2012 → 03 Aug 2012 | [ID=455718] | | Location | Holderness, NH, United States | | Organizer | Gordon Research Conferences | | Abstract | The 2012 Gordon Research Conference on Organic Geochemistry will bring together scientists with diverse expertise and perspectives that are undertaking cutting-edge research in this rapidly advancing and dynamic field. Presentations will focus on emerging and crosscutting topics that push the boundaries of the discipline. Emphasis will be placed on new concepts and analytical approaches that advance knowledge in areas including molecular-level to global-scale (bio)geochemical processes involved in organic matter exchange between the biosphere and geosphere, deciphering organic signatures preserved in geological archives in terms of past biological activity and environmental conditions, and the formation and characterization of petroleum systems. Presentations will be made by leading scientists at the core and on the periphery of the discipline, and include "Hot Topics" talks selected from submitted abstracts that highlight the latest innovations and discoveries. The 2012 GRC will be preceded by the inaugural Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) on Organic Geochemistry, which will provide a forum for junior scientists and graduate students to present their research, and to exchange ideas and interact in relaxed atmosphere with leaders in the field serving as mentors. | | Weblink | http://www.grc.org/programs.aspx?year=2012&program=orggeo | | | |
