Its main motivation is the need for dedicated optical follow-up instruments that can respond to triggers from the new generation of interferometric gravitational wave detectors expected to come online in 2015-16. TOROS will also play a role in the identification and follow-up observations of other optical and near infrared transients in the southern sky. The observatory will be located in Cordon Macón, at an altitude of 4,650 meters and approximately 380 kilometers away from the city of Salta. |
