Zusammenfassung: The purpose of the BioMalPar annual conference is to bring together malaria researchers from Europe and overseas (including Africa, America, Asia and Australia) in order to present and share recent groundbreaking findings on fundamental malaria research. New insights will also be featured through the use of poster sessions. This meeting will also provide an enriched environment for researchers at all stages of their career to interact with international leaders in the field. The meeting will offer an excellent opportunity for sharing ideas and for potential development of new worldwide collaborations.

Zusammenfassung: This Symposium is held within the framework of the strategic partnership between the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and Bayer Schering Pharma. It will bring together basic and clinical researchers to present their recent research findings relevant to the identification of novel targets or the development of novel therapeutic strategies, and to discuss established and emerging frontiers of targeted cancer therapies. Scientific and clinical aspects will be reviewed in the context of anti-angiogenesis, signal transduction and chromatin modulation.

Zusammenfassung: The conference series aims to incorporate basic, translational and clinical aspects of stem cell research into a single framework. The mechanisms that generate and maintain mammalian embryonic and tissue-specific stem cell populations will be discussed, as will the application of this knowledge to regenerative medicine and cancer biology. In particular, the role of induced pluripotentcy and cancer stem cells will be highlighted. Non-mammalian model systems will be included as they provide strong forward genetics, and also opportunities for in vivo pharmacological screening. The goal is to give participants an overview of the model systems and scientific and logistic framework involved in gaining and exploiting basic knowledge of stem cell biology.

Zusammenfassung: In der medizinischen mikrobiologischen Diagnostik hat sich in den letzten Jahren viel getan. Die Mikrobiologie soll für den Kliniker schneller werden- nur wie kann man dies verwirklichen? Hat die klassische Mikrobiologie ihre Bedeutung verloren? Ist sie abgelöst worden durch molekularbiologische Verfahren – oder haben beide Methoden in der heutigen Zeit nebeneinander ihre Bedeutung und Wichtigkeit in Diagnostik und Therapie von Infektionskrankheiten?
