Zusammenfassung: Stochastic Partial Differential Equations are used to model many physical systems subjected to the influence of internal, external or environmental noise. They also arise when considering deterministic models from random initial conditions, or as tractable approximations to complex deterministic systems. In many cases the presence of noise leads to new phenomena with many recent examples in the physical sciences, biology and financial modelling. The goal of the program is to bring together the world leaders in Stochastic Partial Differential Equations working on various aspects of the theory, numerical approximations and applications, as well as in related scientific areas. A number of workshops will take place during the programme.

Zusammenfassung: The mathematical work concerned with or inspired by General Relativity has increased substantially over the years and is still expanding, thanks to the wide variety of interesting and challenging problems that General Relativity can offer in several distinct areas of Mathematics, for example PDEs, Geometry and Numerical Analysis. Fundamental open questions in General Relativity, such as the stability of Kerr, the formation and structure of Black Holes and the Cosmic Censorship Conjecture, require for their understanding a deep analysis of the global behavior of solutions to the Einsten equations.

This conference brings together leading experts on General Relativity/non-linear wave equations and will cover topics of current and future research in these fields.

Zusammenfassung: In the last years, the development of several methods for the study of nonlinear differential problems has played a fundamental role in various fields of research as: mechanics engineering, neural networks, economy and a lot of others. The conference includes talks and communications by several experts in these research areas.

Zusammenfassung: The Mathematics Department at the University of Texas – Pan American will host an NSF/CBMS regional research conference on Nonlinear Water Waves with Applications to Wave-Current Interactions and Tsunamis during the week of May 17-21, 2010. The principal speaker will be Professor Adrian Constantin, Chair of Partial Differential Equations at the University of Vienna, Austria. Additional invited lectures will also be featured by other leading experts, including Professors J. Bona, A. Degasperis, J. Escher, A. S. Fokas, R. Johnson, W. Strauss, J. F. Toland, E. Varvaruca, and possibly others. Participation is open to scientists working at research level on theoretical and practical aspects of the conference’s topic. Some limited support is available for travel and local expenses. Underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

Zusammenfassung: The Fifth International Conference "Inverse Problems: Modeling and Simulation" will be held during May 24-29, 2010, in one of distinguished hotels of the Mediterranean Region, in famous Lykia World & Links Golf Antalya hotel, Antalya, Turkey. The proposed International Conference will be under the auspices of the leading international journals, "Inverse Problems in Science and Engineering", "Inverse Problems", "Inverse and Ill-Posed Problems", and the International Society for Inverse Problems in Science and Engineering (ISIPSE). Zusammenfassung: The aim of MOGRAN-14 is to stimulate discussions of new ideas, mathematical methods and applications of group analysis to problems of nonlinear differential equations, difference equations and integro-differential equations in mathematical modeling.

Zusammenfassung: This conference is devoted to fostering the interaction between the SIAM Activity Groups in Analysis of Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) and in Dynamical Systems and Applications (DS) with the Catalan and Spanish mathematical societies and RSME, SCM, and SEMA and the European applied mathematical community in general. The conference will put special emphasis in stimulating new promising research lines in PDEs and DS, encouraging bridges between academia and industry. Zusammenfassung: Conservation Laws (or balance laws) are systems of partial differential equations which arise naturally as models for a variety of physical phenomena (e.g., fluid dynamics, magneto-hydrodynamics, combustion, oil recovery, and nonlinear elasticity). The primary focus of this summer program will be on recent developments in our understanding of such equations. Beginning with a rapid tutorial phase, the aim of the program will be to expose participants to current areas of active research and to help prepare them to pursue open problems in the field. The program will touch on both theoretical and computational aspects of conservation laws, and application areas (old and new) in which conservation laws play a central role will be highlighted.

Zusammenfassung: Professors Arthur Jaffe and J. Zinn-Justin have agreed to join us during the opening session on Sunday afternoon July 11. Professor Jaffe will discuss the important role of path integrals in the successes of constructive quantum field theory and Professor J. Zinn-Justin will discuss the importance of path integrals in condensed matter and particle physics. During the conference banquet, Professor Cecile DeWitt-Morette will discuss the history of path integrals and the impact on quantum field theory.

Zusammenfassung: The aim of this permanent school is to introduce undergraduate and Ph.D. students in Mathematics and Physics as well as post-doctoral researchers in a recently emerged area of Mathematics and Theoretical Physics: Secondary Calculus. A 'diffiety' is a new geometrical object that properly formalizes the concept of the solution space of a given system of (nonlinear) PDEs, much as an algebraic variety does with respect to solutions of a given system of algebraic equations. Secondary Calculus is a natural diffiety analogue of the standard Calculus on smooth manifolds, and as such leads to a very rich general theory of nonlinear PDEs. It appears that it is this the only natural language of quantum physics, just as the standard Calculus is for classical physics.

Zusammenfassung: The main objective of this workshop is to have timely reviews and discussions of recent results and current issues in (1) the mathematical foundations of integral-equation methods and associated fast algorithms, (2) implementations and performance assessments of such methods on a variety of computer architectures, and (3) existing and new application areas. A plethora of computational techniques already exists, and includes tree-codes, pre-corrected fast Fourier transforms, Ewald procedures, and the many classes of fast multipole methods. This workshop will help clarify the relative advantages of existing schemes, and elucidate the trajectories and applications of many methods now under development.

Zusammenfassung: Inverse Problems are problems where causes for a desired or an observed effect are to be determined. They lie at the heart of scientific inquiry and technological development. Applications include a number of medical as well as other imaging techniques, location of oil and mineral deposits in the earth's substructure, creation of astrophysical images from telescope data, finding cracks and interfaces within materials, shape optimization, model identification in growth processes and, more recently, modelling in the life sciences. During the last 10 yeas or so there has been significant developments both in the mathematical theory and applications of inverse problems. The purpose of the program would be to bring together people working on different aspects of the field, to appraise the current status of development and to encourage interaction between mathematicians and scientists and engineers working directly with the applications.

Zusammenfassung: The main objective of this program is aimed at advancing Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) research in kinetic theories and its impact in the applied sciences highlighting selected modern application areas. This effort has to be understood from a global perspective of research in PDEs bringing together mathematical modelling, analysis, numerical schemes, and simulation in a feedback loop of synergies. The three selected newly emerging application areas of kinetic theories are kinetic modelling in biology, coupled fluid-particle models, and PDE Models for quantum fluids. Several workshops will take place during the program.

Zusammenfassung: The 2-week course in the Continuous and Discrete Wavelet Transform covers the following topics: Time-frequency localization of wavelet functions, multiresolution analysis and variational methods for wavelet constructions; PDE-based methods for the continuous wavelet transform; multiresolution signal processing; wavelets and topology of chaotic phase curves.

Zusammenfassung: This conference is in honor of Willard Miller, Jr., who will be retiring from the University of Minnesota. Topics will include symmetry methods for differential equations, higher symmetries, separation and multi-separation of variables, special functions and orthogonal polynomials, Hamiltonian systems, both classical and quantum, super-integrability and its connections with separability and quasi-exact solvability, and applications to physical systems arising in classical and quantum mechanics and relativity.

Zusammenfassung: This workshop will survey novel discretization techniques in numerical partial differential equations that address the computational challenges posed by higher dimensions, higher orders, complex spaces, complex geometries, nonlinearities and multiscales. The focus is on new and fundamental methodologies that impact diverse areas of numerical partial differential equations.

Zusammenfassung: The amount of time required to solve the large scale problems arising from numerical partial differential equations is a major concern in using mathematical models based on partial differential equations. Various fast solution techniques, such as adaptive methods, domain decomposition methods and multilevel methods, have been developed to address this issue. This workshop will survey new developments and challenges in these and other fast solution techniques.

The aim of this program is to gather experts in the field with knowledge of various applied and theoretical aspects of free boundary problems.
