Zusammenfassung: The GLADE 2008 meeting on numerical methods for differential equations, and related problems, will be held in Auckland during July 2008 and will consist of a one week conference followed by a one week workshop.

Zusammenfassung: The aim of this permanent school is to introduce undergraduate and Ph.D. students in Mathematics and Physics, as well as post-doctoral researchers, in a recently emerged area of Mathematics and Theoretical Physics: Secondary Calculus. A Diffiety is a new geometrical object that properly formalizes the concept of the solution space of a given system of nonlinear PDEs, much as an algebraic variety does with respect to solutions of a given system of algebraic equations. Secondary Calculus is a natural diffiety analogue of the standard calculus on smooth manifolds, and as such leads to a very rich general theory of nonlinear PDEs. Moreover, it appears to be the unique natural language for quantum physics, just as the standard calculus is the natural language for classical physics.

Zusammenfassung: The purpose of ICDEA08 is to bring together both experts and novices in the theory and applications of difference equations and discrete dynamical systems. The main theme will be dynamic equations on time scales.

Zusammenfassung: The conference will be devoted both to theoretical and applied aspects of Operator Theory and their interactions. The IWOTA workshops bring together mathematicians and engineers working in operator theory and its applications to related fields, ranging from classical analysis, differential and integral equations, complex and harmonic analysis to mathematical physics, mathematical system and control theory, signal processing and numerical analysis.

Zusammenfassung: Nonlinear wave interactions lie at the heart of numerous physical phenomena and the mathematical modelling of these systems has driven the development of a broad and vibrant field of mathematical research. The study of nonlinear wave equations has lead to the development of numerous mathematical techniques including aspects of scattering theory, asymptotic expansions, perturbation theory, as well as substantial advances in numerical simulation methods for wave propagation. This workshop will bring together researchers with expertise both in the numerical and analytic aspects of nonlinear wave problems and provide opportunity for students and other researchers to share in the latest developments in these areas. The format of the workshop will be 4 short courses each consisting of 3-4 hours of lectures over 3 days. Students and other researchers will be invited to present their work as short lectures.

Zusammenfassung: As a continuation of the previous conferences held in Czech Republic, Finland and Germany, we are now organizing the 70th International Conference on function spaces, differential operators and nonlinear analysis. The conference celebrates twenty years of FSDONA conferences and will be organized between August 25-29, 2008 in Helsinki, Finland. The conference is preceded by a workshop, August 22-24, aimed especially at younger researchers.

Zusammenfassung: The mathematics that has been developed for Random Matrix Theory in the past two decades is astonishingly rich and includes variational techniques, inverse spectral approach to nonlinear integrable differential and difference systems, new asymptotic techniques, such as the nonlinear steepest descent method, free probability and large deviations methods. The results obtained have found new applications in a stunningly wide range of areas of both mathematics and theoretical physics such as, for example, approximation theory, orthogonal polynomials and their asymptotics, number theory, combinatorics, dynamical systems of integrable type, representation theory of finite and infinite groups, growth phenomena, quantum gravity, conformal field theory, supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and string theory.

Zusammenfassung: The Sapporo Symposium on Partial Differential Equations has been held annually to present the latest developments on PDE with a broad spectrum of interests not limited to the methods of a particular school. Zusammenfassung: This two-day program will consist of a 'crash course' in topics in PDE relevant to the Analysis of Singular Spaces main program, and in particular will attempt to get graduate students, postdocs, and even advanced undergraduates ready for the Introductory Workshop the following week. The focus will be topics in analysis on smooth manifolds whose generalizations to singular spaces will be the focus of the main program. Female researchers are particularly encouraged to attend this workshop and will be given priority for support of travel and lodging expenses.

Zusammenfassung: The Summer School is devoted to recent developments in the field of functional analytic methods in partial differential equations. This school addresses young scholars working toward a master or Ph.D. degree. Distinguished experts will each give three talks on new research results and the underlying mathematical methods and techniques.

Zusammenfassung: This four-day program will be an introduction to the main themes of the analysis of singular spaces program, geared toward graduate students and postdocs. It will consist of several minicourses, covering topics in spectral and scattering theory, index theory, and L²-cohomology, as well as developing the technical tools needed as background.

Zusammenfassung: The aim of this event is to promote the scientific exchange of ideas and methods in such a broad and useful area as the Calculus of Variations. With the goal of applications to different areas such as Mathematics, Mechanics, Engineering, Economy, Finances, Chemistry, Biology, just to name a few, models and methods have been developed, with apparent different languages but that are susceptible of an unified analytical and numerical treatment.

Zusammenfassung: The Conference on Boundary Value Problems, 'Mathematical Models in Engineering, Biology and Medicine' tries to keep in touch some of the most relevant experts in these fields. Zusammenfassung: The purpose of this meeting is to exchange ideas on algebraic structures of Pde's going back to Elie Cartan, Lie and Galois while celebrating the birthday of one of the most active mathematicians in this field. Main topics will be differential Galois theory, groupoids, Cartan's involutivity, non linear algebraic partial differential equations. The scientific committee is composed of L. Zusammenfassung: This workshop will focus on the study of PDEs on singular spaces and their connections with the spaces' underlying geometry. Topics will be cohomology theory, index theory, and spectral geometry on the elliptic side; and wave propagation and associated inverse problems on the hyperbolic. A unifying theme will be asymptotic expansions of solutions in various regimes, as for instance high frequency eigenfunction expansions, which draws techniques from hyperbolic equations into the elliptic theory.

Zusammenfassung: In the last decades, fractional (or non integer) differentiation has played a very important role in various fields such as mechanics, electricity, chemistry, biology, economics and notably control theory and signal and image processing. In these last three fields, some important considerations such as modeling, curve fitting, filtering, pattern recognition, edge detection, identification, stability, controllability, observability and robustness are now linked to long-range dependence phenomena. Considering the number of sessions now organized in intentional conferences, of special issues reserved by journal editors, and of articles in conferences and journals, fractional differentiation and its applications is an important issue for the international scientific community.

The scope of the workshop is to present the state of the art on fractional systems, both on theoretical and application aspects. The growing research and development on fractional calculus in the areas of mathematics, physics and engineering, both from university and industry, motivates this international event gathering and unifying the whole community.

Zusammenfassung: The focus of this workshop will be on the modeling, analysis and simulation of fast reaction-slow diffusion type scenarios as well as corresponding fast-reaction limits. Within this framework, internal sharp and thin reaction layers form and travel through the spatial domain often producing unexpected effects. Such situations appear in a variety of significant applications; for example fame propagation in combustion theory, segregation and aggregation of biological individuals, chemical attack on reactive porous materials (such as concrete or natural stone), dissolution and precipitation reactions in minerals, solidification and temperature-induced phase transitions in steels represent typical cases in which the fast process is localized within an a priori unknown internal active layer.

Zusammenfassung: The objectives of the Conference are to review and discuss some of the latest trends in the field of partial differential equations and applications. The conference is dedicated to Professor Philippe G. Ciarlet, professor emeritus, Université Pierre et Marie Curie, and chair professor, City University of Hong Kong, on the occasion of his 70th birthday, in recognition of his mathematical achievements and of his dedication to the mathematical community.

Zusammenfassung: Under the name 'Equadiff' a series of important international conferences on differential equations have been organized in Europe during the last decades. The first one took place in Prag (1962) and the second one in Bratislava (1966). From 1970 on the location alternated between Czech Republic/Slovakia and various countries of Western Europe. The most recent Equadiff conferences took place in Vienna (2007), Bratislava (2005), Hasselt (2003), Prag (2001), and Berlin (1999).
