Zusammenfassung: The International Symposium on Physical Design provides a premier forum to exchange ideas and promote research on critical areas related to the physical design of VLSI systems. All aspects of physical design, including its interactions with architecture, behavioral- and logic-level synthesis, and back-end performance analysis and verification are within the scope of the symposium. Target domains include semi-custom and full-custom IC, regular fabrics, FPGA, and systems-on-chip/systems-in-package. Following its seventeen predecessors, the 2009 symposium will highlight key new directions and leading-edge theoretical and experimental contributions to the field. The ACM Press will publish accepted papers in the Symposium proceedings.

Zusammenfassung: RF and microwave systems form major components of today’s communications scenario. Examples of applications of such systems include Terrestrial and satellite mobile radio, Cellular mobile telephony, Wimax, Wireless broadband, WLAN, Satellite communications, Defense applications, Radar and Bio-medical applications. Of equal importance to modern electronic systems are digital signal processing techniques. These techniques have resulted in an explosion in the capabilities of modern electronic devices and systems. In this context, it is deemed appropriate that a National Conference is proposed to discuss the latest research trends in the fields of RF & signal processing.

National Conference on the theme ‘Emerging trends in RF and Signal Processing’ is scheduled to be held from 25-27 March 2010 by the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, FISAT, in association with IEEE and ISTE. The Conference provides a medium for scientific information interchange between theoreticians and researchers. It aims to present new advances and research results in the field of theoretical, experimental and applied concepts in communication and signal processing. It will be a platform for bright minds from relevant communities to assemble, share and discuss their innovative ideas and enrich their research horizons. Zusammenfassung: The IET has a long tradition of running successful conferences in the key power areas of electrical machines, power electronics and drives. The 5th International Conference on Power Electronics, Machines and Drives 2010 is the latest of these and will focus on new developments in electrical drives, machines and power electronic systems. PEMD 2010 provides the opportunity to publish results and share practical knowledge with others, based on applications, research and experience.

Zusammenfassung: WILGA has a number of main topical tracks. Historically, the first one was Photonics and Web Engineering. Generally, WILGA embraces advanced photonic and electronic systems, in the following aspects: modeling, algorithms, simulations, hardware, software, measurements, commissioning and exploitation. Topical sessions are organized by leading experts. Sessions usually begin with current tutorials and are filled with contributed papers by students and young researchers. One of the most important session tracks in WILGA are systems for superconductive accelerator (and free electron laser) technology and high energy physics experiments.

Zusammenfassung: Cognitive radio is an emerging technology in wireless access, aimed at vastly improving the way radio spectrum is utilized. The motivation for cognitive radio stems from various measurements of spectrum utilization, which generally show that spectrum is under-utilized. This means that there are many holes in the radio spectrum that could be exploited by the secondary users. The secondary user must exploit these spectrum opportunities without causing harmful degradation to the primary system. The research challenges in this area include devising methods for efficient spectrum pooling and sensing, and for interference management and dynamic resource allocation as well as circuits and architectures meeting the often challenging requirements.

The aim of this conference is to bring together original, high-quality contributions that present new techniques, concepts and analyses in the area of cognitive radio algorithms and system design. Specific topics of the conference include: spectrum sensing and pooling, network design and optimization, software-defined and flexible radio architectures, channel modeling, cooperative communications, as well as beamforming and multicast methods.

Zusammenfassung: Photonic transmission technology is required in communication networks of all kind – from access to long haul and submarine. Moreover, optical multimode, free-space, polymer and on-chip communication channels are becoming ever-more important in other types of applications, including sensor networks, free space communications, and feeding radio over fiber. For many advanced applications, simple data communications approaches, such as intensity modulation with direct detection, are no longer adequate given data impairments, increased system capacity, and required spectral efficiency. As an example, more advanced equalizer and forward error correction (FEC) technologies are now penetrating into high-end metro and core networks as well as into lower-end short MMF link equipment. The system gain has been quite dramatic, adding several dBs of performance.

Zusammenfassung: The 5th annual UK Semiconductors Conference and Exhibition is supported by the Institute of Physics Semiconductor Physics Group and will again be co-hosted with the UK Nitrides Consortium summer meeting. This 2-day event will cover all aspects of semiconductor research, spanning seven symposia.

New for 2010 is an Organic and Hybrid Semiconductors Symposium, plus the Optical Devices syposium will also hold a special focus session on photovoltaics.
