| 1. | [ID=104476]Glutathione and related thiols in microorganisms and plants | | 27. Aug 2008 → 29. Aug 2008; Nancy, Frankreich | | Zusammenfassung: The research effort on microbial thiols, in particular (but not only) glutathione, increased in the last ten years, in part because thiols were identified as important components of cell defence against oxidative, metals, xenobiotics, nutritional, osmotic, acid , etc... stresses, but also because these derivatives are now recognized as involved in signal transduction mechanisms. Thiols were also identified as playing major roles in cell cycle, from differentiation to apoptosis, and cell organisation as exemplified by aggregation, biofilm formation and also in interaction between microorganisms and plants. The recent discovery that glutathione and glutaredoxin are involved in iron sulfur assembly both in mitochondria and in chloroplasts has also renewed interest in the field. Moreover, glutathione is of interest for applications in food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic industry and environmental technology, especially waste water treatment. Different investigation fields will be thus covered in the planned symposium. We think that so it will be a nice opportunity to create a platform for exchanging ideas, and assembling investigators coming from different horizons. | | Webseite: http://www.thiolmicrob.uhp-nancy.fr/ | | Kontakt: Tel.: (+33 3 83 68 21 55) |
| 3. | [ID=168269]Chemotactic Cytokines 2008 | | 21. Sep 2008 → 26. Sep 2008; Aussois, Frankreich | | Zusammenfassung: Chemokines are a family of approximately 50 proteins that differ from other cytokines in that they act on G protein-coupled seven transmembrane (7TM) spanning receptors. Their principal role is to direct leukocyte trafficking in the body, and they are thus pivotal to development and the establishment of the immune system. However their excessive activity results in the establishment of inflammation. Through studies in animal models using tools such as genetically modified mice, neutralizing antibodies and receptor antagonists, they have been shown to play a role in diseases such as asthma, atherosclerosis, multiple sclerosis, inflammatory bowel disorder and arthritis, as well as many others. They are also involved in diseases such as cancer and infectious diseases such as AIDS, where they play a role beyond inflammation. Their involvement in the CNS and in apoptosis also demonstrates activity beyond cell recruitment. Since 7TM receptors are one of the cornerstones for drug discovery, they provide a very attractive target for therapeutic intervention, and programs are now moving into the clinic, with the first approval by the FDA achieved in 2007. They are also suitable targets for biological therapeutics, and again monoclonal antibodies are currently being tested in clinical trials. | | Webseite: http://www.grc.org/programs.aspx?year=2008&program=chemotac | | Verwandte Fachgebiete: Molekularbiologie | | | | 4. | [ID=188275]EMBO Practical Course — EMBO / MAX-INF2 workshop on structure determination in macromolecular crystallography | | 20.
