Zusammenfassung: The Radiotherapy Standards Users' Group meets at NPL about every eighteen months, attended by around fifty radiotherapy physicists from throughout the UK and Ireland. Presentations are given by invited speakers and representatives of NPL on various topics including photon, electron and proton dosimetry, brachytherapy and chemical dosimetry.

Zusammenfassung: Framework topics addressed by this meeting will include how innovation is handled within the NHS, the importance of industrial design and also how to climb the ethical mountain. In addition, core issues of product design for IEC 60601-1 compliance, development of quality systems and a case history of successful development will be included.

A particular aspect of nanotechnology is its interface with the biological sciences, which has been dubbed ‘bionanotechnology’. This emerging discipline draws on biological inspiration and provides new tools to investigate biological systems with unprecedented resolution and input. Despite its impact on the biological sciences, nanotechnology has been largely driven by the physical science and engineering and we feel it’s now timely to engage life scientists in this exciting and rapidly developing area. Topics to include: Gel materials science Industrial applications of self-assembly Nanometrology in the life sciences Nanopore devices for medical diagnostics

Zusammenfassung: This topical one day meeting will address the current state and future directions of nuclear medicine imaging technology. This includes the use of SPECT-CT for attenuation correction, image fusion and CT angiography, developments in the use of PET-CT, dedicated cardiac gamma cameras and recently released resolution recovery algorithms for iterative reconstruction.

Zusammenfassung: Following the success of previous meetings, the 4th meeting of the Digital Radiology User Group will give attendees an opportunity to share information and experiences in all aspects of digital imaging.

Zusammenfassung: We are all concerned with the continuing safety of the medical equipment we are responsible for. Often we have difficulty arranging resources to ensure safety. This meeting is a review of progress in understanding risk concepts and applying them to medical equipment maintenance scheduling and the specification of maintenance tasks.

Exhibitors offer a wide range of raw materials, design, manufacturing and automation technology suitable for building medical devices.

Zusammenfassung: Following 2 previous Noise in Life meetings in Spain (2006) and Germany (2007), "Noise in Life 2009" will focus on cell signaling, regulation of gene expression and neuronal dynamics. There is a nice balance between these three topics to make for an exciting meeting which will improve our understanding of the emergence of mesoscopic dynamics in cell physiology. We will combine communities from the biosciences, nonlinear dynamics, statistical physics, applied mathematics and scientific computing, and gather together expertise in realistic modeling, multi-scale simulations and experimental biology.

Zusammenfassung: The biennial United Kingdom Radiation Oncology Congress and Exhibition is organised by Radiation and Oncology Congresses, a charitable company jointly owned by the British Institute of Radiology, the College of Radiographers, IPEM, and the Royal College of Radiologists.

Zusammenfassung: In the UK, primary dosimetry standards are cascaded to radiotherapy centres via implementation of national codes of practice. The aim of this meeting is to review their theoretical basis and clinical application.

Zusammenfassung: The aim of this programme will be to debate and provide contributions from state of the art mathematical techniques for galvanising the wider research community into focused action on the emerging issues of applying mathematics and computational science to develop multi-scale computational models of physiological systems.

Zusammenfassung: The International Meeting on Developments in Materials, Processes and Applications of Emerging Technologies (MPA) to be held in Manchester (UK) will be the third event of the MPA meeting series. The first meeting (MPA-2007) was in 2007 and held at the University of Ulster (Belfast), which officially launched the Society of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology to the international community. The second meeting in 2008 (MPA-2008) was held at the University of Cambridge (UK).

After its success as MPA-2007 and MPA-2008, MPA-2009 will continue the aim to attract delegates from academia, industry and research institutes involved with applied research and development. In doing so, the event will provide a platform for academics and industrialists to network, exchange ideas and gain new insights related to the technical theme of the conference.
