[ID=625163] Zum Seitenanfang gehen
 OrtDenver, Vereinigte Staaten
 Zusammenfassung The Unconventional Resources Technology Conference (URTeC) is a science-driven conference focused on how technologies and insights from multiple disciplines should be integrated to effectively develop unconventional resources. Being a partnership of three leading professional societies American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Society of Exploration Geophysicists and Society of Petroleum Engineers, URTeC's technical program is strongly science-driven with an industry Advisory Council helping keep URTeC's integrated technology focus. URTeC was developed with an industry advisory group — professionals managing how wells are drilled and how plays are developed every day. Representatives from Anadarko, Apache, Chesapeake, ConocoPhillips, Devon, ExxonMobil-XTO, Schlumberger, Shell, SM Energy, Statoil and others spoke about the importance of geologists, geophysicists, engineers and business managers working together — and understanding each other. They encouraged SPE, AAPG and SEG to collaborate on URTeC to facilitate that learning and understanding.

 Zusammenfassung The conference brings together geoscientists from around the world, who are engaged in shale research studies. Recently, gas- and oil-bearing shales have received a rapid advancement in understanding of shale fabric, pore networks, geomechanical properties, and depositional processes. It was possible due to an interest of the petroleum industry that treated shales as an important source and seal rocks as well as reservoir of the hydrocarbons released from them. Moreover, fine-grained terrigenous clastics provide insight into an evolution of sedimentary basins in time and space as well as climatic and sea-level changes in the Earth history.

 Termin 30. Jun 2015 → 02. Jul 2015
[ID=649160] Zum Seitenanfang gehen
 OrtCargase, Frankreich
 Zusammenfassung Aims of the colloquium: Situated between Europe, Africa and Asia, Mediterranean islands display unique palaeoenvironements and patterns of human occupation. Their physical properties (relief, coastal morphology, vegetation, etc.) are the long-term result of complex geological, tectonic, climatic and eustatic changes. In some cases, the current location and configuration of Mediterranean islands was dramatically different in the Pleistocene and even in the Early Holocene: Corsica and Sardinia, for example, until relatively recently formed a single island, and similar cases are found in the Tuscan archipelago, as well as the islands of the Aegean and Ionian seas. During the Epipaleolithic and the Neolithic, the shapes of the island coastlines and valley profiles have varied widely because of several natural factors, but also on account of the anthropogenic impacts on insular environments. The chronology, character, and scale of initial island colonization in the Mediterranean, continue to be the major topics of scientific debate, as are subsequent human impacts through time. By adopting a multidisciplinary approach, this colloquium aims to combine different approaches from the humanities, social sciences, and geosciences in order to assess long-term patterns of human-environmental interactions on Mediterranean islands during the Late Quaternary (the last 25 000 years).

 OrtBarcelona, Spanien
 Zusammenfassung As far as raw materials go, chert, obsidian and other knappable stones stand out as some of the most common materials in the archaeological record, and at some sites the only preserved material. They were used in almost every corner of the world, from the Palaeolithic up until today. Use of these materials even predates the appearance of our own species. Being so widespread both geographically as well as chronologically, this topic merits a global meeting of researchers to discuss and compare our findings. This conference will cover all aspects of knapped stone raw materials from geological origin, to mining, usage, and laboratory analyses on these materials. Although we expect that there will be more focus on chert and other microcrystalline quartz varieties, we also encourage presentations related to other knappable materials such as obsidian, quartz, quartzite, rhyolite and others. Papers will be accepted on any culture or time period. Whether you are a field archaeologist, laboratory researcher, ethnographer or a modern day knapper yourself, we look forward to hearing about your research.

63.International Conference on Fault and Top Seals
 Termin 27. Sep 2015 → 01. Okt 2015
[ID=650873] Zum Seitenanfang gehen
 OrtAlmeria, Spanien
 Zusammenfassung International Conference on Fault and Top Seals will provide an opportunity to hear the latest in fault and top seal analysis for both research and industry applications. The objective is to highlight and discuss advances in research and technology of interest across the geoscience and engineering communities. A primary conference goal is to identify future research and development themes that will underpin major improvements in our understanding of fault seals and top seals. In particular, the conference will address predictive methods and flow models applicable to the areas of hydrocarbon exploration & production, hydrogeology, CO2 sequestration and nuclear waste disposal. The Clay Club has been specifically invited to encourage cross-disciplinary knowledge transfer, especially in the area of shale behaviour. The content of the meeting will be wide ranging, from pore- and outcrop-scale through to basin-scale, and incorporating geology, geophysics, geochemistry and engineering. Integrated case studies are particularly welcomed. Oral and poster presentations will be complemented by ample discussion sessions and a conference field trip.

 Termin 15. Feb 2016 → 17. Jun 2016
[ID=628318] Zum Seitenanfang gehen
 OrtIsaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences, , Großbritannien
 Zusammenfassung The Earth's mantle is almost entirely solid, but on geological timescales it convects vigorously, the well-known surface expression of this being plate tectonics. Although the basic thermodynamics of melt generation in these settings is well understood, how the melt is transported to the surface is not, despite several decades of work on the problem. Sophisticated mathematical techniques are needed to map an understanding of physics at the smallest scales to plate-tectonic scales. Seismology offers a way to image melt in the mantle, but development of new tools in inverse theory is required to extract that information. Models are cast as a series of coupled non-linear PDEs, which require advanced numerical techniques to solve. This programme will bring together a broad spectrum of mathematicians and solid Earth scientists to tackle these and other challenges in the area. Several workshops will take place during the programme. For full details please see
