Zusammenfassung: The second in this series of conferences will be another step forward to focus on recent advances in thermo-mechanical processing, emphasizing various simulation techniques and their appliations. It will provide an opportunity to scientists and technologists from research/academic institutes, and manufacturers to share their experience and find new directions in producing high value products.

The conference will focus on: such topics as: phase transformation; recrystallization and grain growth; mathematical modeling of metallurgical processes and microstructure; simulation of continuous casting, hot rolling, forging, heat-treatment, strip annealing and welding; advances ion thermo-mechanical processing of steels; structure-property correlation; and emerging steel.

Zusammenfassung: The major aim of the DST Discussion Meeting is to gather the leading scientists from all over the world, engaged in metamaterials research, in order to generate sufficient interest amongst Indian researchers. Despite the fact that metamaterials research has been identified as one of the top ten emerging technologies by Technology Review, there is very little activity as of now in the Indian context. The meeting is to boost research and training both in fundamental as well as in applied areas. In many Indian Institutes/Universities there are people with sufficient expertise (both in theory and experiment). One of the objectives is to attract these scientists into the wonderful world of engineered materials.

Zusammenfassung: The Unified objective of this conference is to bring together researchers working in this new and exciting area of Active/Smart materials. Besides invited talks by distinguished scientists around the world, it would also encourage young researchers and students to present their work. The proceeding of this conference will be published in reputed journals. The conference aims at discovering the prospects and potential impact of smart technology in the market place.

Zusammenfassung: Material Science research is always radiating complexity though contributing to make involved streams rich as subject and bringing changes in lifestyle of society. Materials by class are prone to keep their characteristics as secret which prescribes an approach to inter and multidisciplinary research.

Energy technologies, Defense, Space, Industry all such sectors are constantly searching for materials with longer lifetimes and of more tolerance to radiation and research is encouraged to meet this goal. An additional protocol is to be pursued to grow body of data on the behavior of materials under specified conditions. The whole scenario underlines the necessity of understanding material properties with great precision. How far the frontier experimental state-of art facilities and computational resources can bring paradigm shift in precision measurement of materials is an issue needs to be addressed. Few outstanding scientists whose exceptionally creative works open up new frontiers in material research will discuss selected topics of material science in the ambiance of “SANTINIKETAN” and in the backdrop of a recently developed research laboratory with state - of - art facilities to enlighten the august audience about options of employing probes and material treatments to make further progress in material research.

Zusammenfassung: The 2nd International Conference on Physics at Surfaces and Interfaces (PSI2009) is jointly organized by Institute of Physics (IOP), Bhubaneswar and Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata from February 23 - 27 , 2009. The conference will be held in the beach resort of Puri on the Bay of Bengal. Puri is an international tourist spot with its long sandy beach and nearby temples listed under World Heritage sites. Some temples date back to the eighth century. The famous Sun Temple at Konark is 35 kms away from Puri. Puri is 65 kms away from Bhubaneswar, the capital of the Indian state of Orissa, Bhubaneswar is connected to Calcutta (Kolkata), Delhi, Bombay (Mumbai) and Madras (Chennai) by air. The five-day conference includes an excursion involving the Golden Triangle(Puri - Konark - Bhubaneswar). The conference will be held in Toshali Sands- a hotel with its own private beach.

This year is celebrated as "Dr. Homi Bhabha's Birth Centenary Year 2008 - 2009". We are organizing this conference as a part of these celebrations.

Normally, the lectures are held in the morning and evening. Afternoons are available for informal participation in discussions, reading and recreation, as individuals desire.
