Zusammenfassung: Foundry technology remains a cornerstone of industrial activity, and the last staging of GIFA in 2007 once again proved its high innovation potential and efficiency against a background of increasing demands in terms of quality, flexibility, cost management, environment and links with modern technologies. And thanks to a number of new developments, new markets and products with new application niches, the market situation has roared back in recent years at a high growth level. Export business is playing an ever growing role in the industry's development and is contributing to high plant operating levels.

Zusammenfassung: Based on branch stabilization, the increasing demand for steel has led to an international boom. The worldwide increase in demand for steel, coupled with more efficient processes in smelting and processing, justify the great expectations experts in this field from all over the world are placing in METEC 2011.

Time after time, visitors award top accolades for METEC's breadth of scope, innovative muscle and pivotal presentations. In addition, the link-up of trade show and congress promotes intensive dialogue between exhibitors and visitors from around the globe on business developments and economic and quality enhancing advances in steel production and processing.

Zusammenfassung: This, the 2nd International Symposium on Sustainability through Resource Conservation and Recycling '11 (SRCR '11), is organised by Minerals Engineering International in consultation with Prof Markus Reuter. This conference discusses all aspects of material and metal usage.

Zusammenfassung: We currently face a public debate on climate change. On one side stand those who oppose the mere notion of man-induced climate change. On the other there is a strong faction that, in its extreme, prophesises a near-future 'doomsday'. In the middle stands a community that would like to see a sound discussion and actual proofs going beyond unproven climate modelling.

It would be naive to think that modern industrialised societies play no part in climate change. The minerals industry is one of the largest producers of carbon dioxide, and the need to reduce emissions, coupled with the global recession, is having a huge economic impact.

Until it is proven whether climate change is human-induced or not, legislation and common-sense demand that carbon emissions be reduced, particularly from high CO2 producers such as the minerals industry.

Zusammenfassung: This, the 1st International Symposium on Risk-Based Approaches to Major Decisions (Risk '11), is organised by Minerals Engineering International in association with RMRI.

Risk management is a vital decision-making tool in modern industry and commerce. Since virtually every decision involves some element of uncertainty, and because there are risks inherent in most of the key issues facing companies today, the ability to understand risks and manage them effectively is an important ingredient for success. This is particularly true when assessing complex and large scale decisions where considerable capital is involved.

In such cases, risk-based approaches have been shown to be highly effective because they enable decision makers to make informed management choices based on structured information and analysis and to demonstrate the basis of their decisions.

This conference will look at areas in the construction, management and operation of large scale assets where adopting a risk-based approach to decision-making offers advantages in terms of both reduced risks and commercial benefit. Novel areas of application will be discussed and innovative techniques that are demonstrably cost effective will be introduced.

Zusammenfassung: This conference aims to bring together researchers, mill operators and software developers to present and discuss the application of computational modelling to the mineral and metallurgical process industries.

Zusammenfassung: Although there is much current emphasis on the chemical methods of mineral separation – flotation, hydrometallurgy, and bioleaching, the physical separation methods are ubiquitous, and there is no mining operation in the world which does not make use of the density differences between solids and liquids.

November 14-15: Flotation Fundamentals: Physics and Chemistry

Although now over a hundred years old, the fundamental aspects of flotation are still being intensively researched, and new machines developed. This two day symposium will focus on:
- Fundamental reagent and flotation chemistry
- Bubbles, froths, bubble-particle interactions
- Flotation cell hydrodynamics, kinetics and scale-up

November 16-17: Flotation Applications and Plant Practice

This two day symposium focuses on the application of flotation, and will include sessions on:

- Plant Operations, particularly related to new technology, and process mineralogy problems
- Flotation Circuits, and their modelling, simulation, control and optimisation
- Flotation machine developments
- Metallic, non-metallic and coal flotation
- Environmental considerations

Zusammenfassung: This major symposium is in honor of the distinguished work and lifetime achievements of Prof. Derek Fray. Professor Fray is a well known figure for his deeply impact in materials extraction and processing world. He is author of almost 400 scientific papers and inventor on approximately 179 patents arising from 62 families of patents. He is Fellow of some of the most prestigious professional societies around the world. Throughout his career his activity has impacted various fields such as non-ferrous, ferrous and nano-scale materials processing; many processing routes including pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy, chemical vapor synthesis and processing, recycling; and several investigation techniques such as experimental measurements and physical modeling and simulation. Reflecting this rich activity the scope of this symposium will be based in the equally important three topical areas: principles, technologies and industrial practice with special emphasis to a globally sought clean environment of 21 century. It will include but it is not limited to, non-ferrous metal extraction, processing and sulfide smelting (including light metals, PMG and Ferro alloys); iron and steel production; mineral processing; chemical and metallurgical process reactors; refractory materials; recycling, waste treatment, soil remediation and biotechnologies; chemistry of power and energy generation; composite, hybrid, polymeric, ceramic materials and nanomaterials; value addition and advanced materials; legal and management, and environmental related issues.
