The Intra Cluster Medium (ICM) constitutes the largest baryonic component of galaxy clusters. It is affected by gravitational and non-gravitational processes due to the interaction with the cluster galaxy population. It is now widely recognized that the cluster environment plays a fundamental role in determining the evolution of its galaxy population. In turn, feedback in cluster cores offer the unique opportunity to understand the interactions between star formation events and nuclear activity within the surrounding medium.

Theoretical models and numerical simulations have been developed in order to capture the complexity of this interaction and to understand when, where, and how feedback takes place. At the same time the ICM is an important diagnostic of the dynamics of the cluster itself, and an exhaustive understanding of its properties is crucial for a full understanding of the growth of cosmic structures at large, and the measurement of cosmological parameters. This workshop will focus on the physics of the ICM and its relation with the different mass components of galaxy clusters. The aim is to provide an overview of the many exciting recent results at vastly different wavelengths (Radio, SZ, sub-mm, IR, optical, X-ray, gamma-ray) and use them to challenge theoretical models and advanced numerical simulations.

The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) will be the world’s largest and most powerful radio telescope. When the SKA begins operations early in the next decade, it will deliver spectacular new data sets that are expected to transform our understanding of physics, astronomy and cosmology.

To fully realise the potential of the SKA as a machine for fundamental physics, the SKA organisation seeks to engage the theoretical physics community in the science case and design considerations for the full array. To initiate this discussion, we will be holding a focused workshop in May 2017, in which we aim to bring together radio astronomers and theorists to jointly consider ways in which the SKA can test and explore fundamental physics.

MC4BSM is a series of workshops aiming to gather theorists and experimentalists interested in developing Monte Carlo tools to simulate collider signatures of Beyond the Standard Model Physics, and to use such tools in phenomenological studies and in searches for new physics at energy frontier colliders. Since 2006, ten workshops have been held in this series, hosted in the USA, Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, Korea and China. The focus of MC4BSM 2017 will include: 1) to report new features and new developments of general-purpose Monte Carlo tools; 2) to discuss the experimental needs from the LHC, from dark matter experiments, and from physics studies of future colliders; 3) to offer tutorials to senior PhD students, postdocs, and young faculty interested in using Monte Carlo tools in their research.

The conference will be focused on recent development in nuclear theory. This includes ab initio no-core calculations, effective QCD field theories, clustering, radioactive decays and large scale configuration approaches. Recent experiments have revealed a variety of new properties in nuclei. In relation to those, we are interested in 1) the isoscalar spin aligned neutron-proton coupling scheme, instead of the standard isovector pairing coupling mode, 2) the construction of effective, low-energy approximations to QCD by finding methods to treat its non-perturbative domain, 3) the status and challenges of large-scale configuration interaction and energy density functional calculations. To relate the stability of atomic nucleus from quantities which span many energy and length scales to the underlying fundamental forces, poses a severe challenge to first principle descriptions of nuclear systems. The theoretical modeling of nuclear matter requires thus a multiscale approach, where different degrees of freedom have to be included at the relevant length and energy scales. An exchange of ideas in these very actual issues is therefore urgent. In addition, recent experimental progress will be reviewed.

Recent years has seen substantial work on superconformal field theories (SCFTs) with 8 or more supercharges (N≥2 in four dimensions) in diverse dimensions. By now a vast set of tools has been developed. These include Seiberg-Witten technology, conformal bootstrap inspired techniques, F/M-theory constructions, BPS quivers and wall-crossing formulas, supersymmetric localization, superconformal indices and partition functions, tt* equations, class S constructions, and ubiquitous supersymmetric dualities. Combining the insights obtained using all these different techniques could be of tremendous help in advancing our systematic understanding of SCFTs with enough supersymmetry. Arguably one of the main impediments is the breadth of the specialties involved. This workshop aims at overcoming this impediment by bringing together researchers from these different communities. Our goal is to explore how these, sometimes orthogonal, pieces of information about SCFTs can be combined to chart out the space of consistent SCFTs and to determine their basic properties. The workshop will be three weeks long. The first two weeks will have a traditional format consisting of a light schedule of talks meant to encourage discussions and interactions between the participants. In the final week we will try something less traditional by devoting the week to collective research.

The proposed Nordita Program will focus on two main themes: 1) Current status and future perspectives in cosmology. What have we learnt from currently available cosmological data? What fundamental questions in physics can be probed with cosmology? Given current technology, which of these questions can we address right now? To address these questions, the community requires a detailed understanding of the interplay between independent dataset. This is most easily achieved by bringing together experts from various sub-fields in cosmology to share ideas and discuss. Some of the key topics that will be covered at this meeting include: the nature of dark matter and dark energy; large-sky surveys, multi-frequency observations, and the complementarity of disjoint experiments; the interplay between cosmology and the standard model of particle physics; recent advances in both hardware and software development in light of cosmological aspirations. 2) The CMB and inflation. The search for primordial gravitational wave signal is ongoing and the field is expected to advance significantly by the middle of 2017. The dedicated conference will give attendees the chance to discuss contemporary results in a forum that includes representatives from both theory and experiment. Young researchers will benefit from exposure to world-renowned cosmologists while the exchange of opinion will strengthen the basis for competitive inflation and CMB research in the Nordic countries.

The next TRIUMF Summer Institute (TSI 2017) will be held from July 24th to August 4th, 2017 at TRIUMF in Vancouver, Canada. The theme for TSI 2017 is “Modern Tools for Nuclear Astrophysics” and will focus on the three research pillars of nuclear astrophysics: experiments, observations, and astrophysical modelling.

The school will host 40 graduate students and young researchers from all over the globe, and is designed to be very interactive with ample time for questions and discussions. During the two weeks of the TSI, the afternoons will be dedicated to hands-on problem solving to help digest the content of the lectures. TSI 2017 is designed to be accessible to students working in nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics, providing them with a solid foundation in modern methods and tools in all three areas of research, as well as our current understanding of the astrophysical events under study.

The Brazilian Workshop on Nuclear Physics (RTFNB, acronym in Portuguese) is organized annually by the Brazilian Physics Society since 1978. The 40th edition of this meeting will take place from 03-07 September, 2017. Several subjects on Nuclear Physics are covered in the RTFNB, as Hadron Physics, High Energy Physics, Nuclear Structure, Nuclear Reactions, Applied Nuclear Physics and Instrumentation. Our main objective is to promote Nuclear Physics research in the country; stimulate and reinforce collaborations among nuclear physicists from around the country; disseminate advances in nuclear physics research and its applications; disseminate, disclose and evaluate the scientific production in this field, stimulate young students in their first steps into scientific research. The XL RTFNB meeting, will be held at Campos do Jordão, a cosy city on the mountains between the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais. Invited speakers of several countries will show their most recent works, and the place offers several opportunities to contact new people and initiate or reinforce scientific collaboration.

This is the fourth edition of a series of workshops, focused on different aspects of modern theoretical cosmology, the challenge to be consistent with experimental data and the necessary connection of cosmological theories with the quantum nature of the vacuum. A basic question in modern cosmology is why we do not see vacuum fluctuations at cosmological scales? In addition, should the singularities of cosmological theories treated as necessary ingredients of the classical theory or should these be the indicators of an underlying quantum theory yet to be discovered? In this aspect, in this workshop we aim to bring along all the leading scientists working on these problems and present all the up to date results in these strongly interdependent physics areas. Hence the workshop will cover topics related to modified theories of gravities, other theories of Dark Energy and Inflation, the description of the universe’s evolution in these theories and the elegant and compulsory modification of these within the theoretical framework of quantum gravity, with Loop Quantum Cosmology being the most elegant theory providing up to date a singularity free cosmological evolution. The description and understanding of the quantum vacuum is always a challenge to these theories so the understanding of the main manifestation of the quantum vacuum, the Casimir effect, is always a challenge.

The main objective of CNNP2017 is to promote a collaborative framework of researchers from the fields of nuclear, neutrino, astro and dark-matter physics, to discuss experiments and theories in which nuclear physics aspects are particularly relevant. At present, nuclear structure plays an ever growing role in the mentioned fields of fundamental physics, but still a lot needs to be done. The overlap between different communities is an unavoidable, despite demanding, feature in order to face several challenges of modern fundamental physics. The sharing of different experimental and theoretical techniques and the exchange of technical experiences and know-how are perhaps the best resource to build a unified view of the afore mentioned scientific problems. In this context, it is of utmost importance to allow people working at the intersections of these fields to meet regularly to exchange ideas and results. For this reason, the CNNP2017 aims at evolving in the long term into a periodic meeting.

The WONP and the NURT (Workshops on Nuclear Physics and Nuclear Related Techniques) are key Cuban Scientific Meetings in the field of Nuclear and High Energy Particle Physics and peaceful applications of nuclear techniques in the economic and social life. WONP-NURT Symposia has a biannual frequency, hosting delegates and invited scientists from more than 40 countries from all over the world. Since 2009 a pre-conference school is also organized. In this edition the Symposium NURT is celebrating its 20th Anniversary.
