| Zusammenfassung | The first run of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is planned to be over by the end of 2012. By then the Standard Model Higgs boson mass range from the LEP bound to about 700 GeV will have been explored, providing the first hint of the origin of electroweak symmetry breaking. In addition the LHC will have provided the first significant tests of the main Beyond the Standard Model ideas and model predictions. We propose to discuss the status of theoretical ideas and their confrontation with the data from the first LHC run in a GGI workshop in Florence during the spring of 2013, both from the bottom-up perspective starting from the experimental data and from the top-down perspective starting from theoretical models and their UV completion. |

| Zusammenfassung | Grâce à la mise en opération d'une seconde génération d'instruments, nous sommes à l'aube d'une première détection directe des ondes gravitationnelles. On s'attend à ce qu'elles soient émises lors d'événements astrophysiques violents, possiblement associés à d'autres types d'émission observables dans le spectre électromagnétique ou de neutrinos comme, par exemple les sursauts gamma. Ceci motive la mise en corrélation des futures observations gravitationnelles avec celles de l'astronomie conventionnelle. C'est une telle astrophysique (multi-messagers) qu'il est aujourd'hui opportun d'élaborer en réunissant les diverses communautés impliquées, autant dans l'observation que dans les aspects théoriques. Cette école thématique du CNRS se propose de réunir des experts d'un large spectre de disciplines, incluant des spécialistes de sources d'ondes gravitationnelles et de leur modélisation, des physiciens des hautes énergies, aussi bien spécialistes de la phénoménologie des sources astrophysiques associées que des différents types d'observations. Les objectifs sont de permettre des échanges de compétences entre les intervenants représentant leurs communautés scientifiques et de contribuer à la formation d'une nouvelle génération de jeunes chercheurs dans ces domaines. |

| Zusammenfassung | Ever since the birth of string theory, interaction with geometry has been one of the primary driving forces that has led to progress in superstring theory. On one hand, string theory has generated many new geometrical concepts; and on the other hand new ideas from geometry have often found their first applications in string theory. These topics include vertex algebras, conformal field theory, mirror symmetry, topological field theory and string theory, exact solutions of supersymmetric gauge theory and noncommutative field theory. Recent exciting developments include the matrix model approach to N=1 gauge theory, open string mirror symmetry, the derived category approach to D-branes on Calabi-Yau manifolds, geometric transitions, proof of the N=2 Seiberg-Witten solution by instanton methods, wall crossing formulas, the relation between Langlands program and supersymmetric gauge theories, indications of integrable structures in super Yang-Mills theory and AdS string theory. The program will be devoted to geometrical subjects motivated by string theory, and to recent developments in string theory and related physical fields which are of strong mathematical interest. On the mathematical side, the aim is to foster interaction between such areas of mathematics as derived categories, elliptic cohomology, geometric Langlands correspondence, quantum cohomology. On the more physical side, the aim is to foster new progress in the continuing drive towards understanding the foundations of string/M-theory, and in the wealth of new ideas involving D-branes, BPS states and various dualities which are of great importance to mathematical subjects such as algebraic geometry. There will be included a training week with introductory lectures to some of these topics. |

Topics include searches for TeV-scale physics beyond the Standard Model via ultra-precise measurements of parity-violating electron scattering asymmetries, determinations of neutron decay parameters via precision measurements of its lifetime and decay asymmetries, and searches for EDMs of nucleons, nuclei and atoms. The necessary high-precision theoretical tools to analyse these experiments, which include advanced calculations of radiative corrections, will be explored and developed.The scientific program may be attended by up to 30 scientists at any given time, who are expected to spend at least two weeks at MITP.
