| 1.Mechanical Systems in the Quantum Regime — Exploring the Quantum Regime | | Termin | 04. Mär 2012 → 09. Mär 2012 | [ID=454616] | | Ort | Galveston, TX, Vereinigte Staaten | | Veranstalter | Gordon Research Conferences | | Zusammenfassung | With macroscopic mechanical oscillators now firmly exhibiting quantum behavior, micro/nano-mechanics is the third technology - following optics and electronics - to enter the quantum regime. We anticipate that this exciting development will spark new ideas in quantum information, measurement science, and fundamental tests of physical laws. This meeting will provide a glimpse of the latest developments in this rapidly evolving activity. It will include the diversity of physical systems that display the quantum motion of mechanical oscillators, such as: small and large scale optomechanical structures, cold atomic clouds, electromechanical circuits, and hybrids of these systems. Topics to be addressed include (but are not limited to): applications for the newly developed quantum control over macroscopic mechanical oscillators, experimental and theoretical strategies for enhancing and quantum coherence, and fundamental tests enabled by quantum oscillators. | | Webseite | http://www.grc.org/programs.aspx?year=2012&program=mechquant | | Verwandte Fachgebiete | Mikrotechnologie, Nanotechnologie; Quantenmechanik und Quanteninformation |
| 2.NANOSMAT-USA | | Termin | 27. Mär 2012 → 30. Mär 2012 | [ID=445353] | | Ort | Tampa, Vereinigte Staaten | | Zusammenfassung | Adhering to the long standing NANOSMAT traditions, this meeting will foster the gathering of high calibre, talented and intellectual people from both academia and industry in order to exchange ideas, information and technology. The event will provide a binding platform for interactions between researchers; scientists and engineers from industry, research laboratories and academia, and in doing so will feature state-of-the-art developments in all aspects of processing, characterisation and applications of nanomaterials, nanoscience and nanotechnology. | | Webseite | http://www.nanosmat-usa.com | | Verwandte Fachgebiete | Nanoteilchen und Emulsionen; Mikrotechnologie, Nanotechnologie |
| 3.ICERM Topical Workshop: Heterostructured Nanocyrstalline Materials | | Termin | 30. Mai 2012 → 01. Jun 2012 | [ID=451654] | | Ort | Providence, RI, Vereinigte Staaten | | Zusammenfassung | The theme of this workshop is the computation, modeling, and mathematical analysis of heterostructured nanocyrstalline materials. This includes quantum dots, nanowires, graphene, and grain boundaries. These various phenomena will be discussed in the context of modeling and computation on different scales ranging from density functional theory to continuum mechanics. The workshop will also address various techniques that allow one to combine models on different scales to yield efficient computational methods. | | Webseite | http://icerm.brown.edu/tw12-3-hnm | | | | | 4.Crystal Engineering | | Termin | 10. Jun 2012 → 15. Jun 2012 | [ID=454887] | | Ort | Waterville Valley, NH, Vereinigte Staaten | | Veranstalter | Gordon Research Conferences | | Zusammenfassung | The 2012 GRC on Crystal Engineering follows the highly successful first ever GRC on Crystal Engineering (2010) which had over 160 international participants. The 2012 Crystal Engineering GRC will also include a new and exciting Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) in which only students and postdocs may present or lead discussions. Both the GRC and GRS on Crystal Engineering provide a forum for the discussion of the current state of the art of this rapidly evolving, highly interdisciplinary field, to identify and debate open questions, and to point out new and promising research directions. Crystal engineering is the design and synthesis of functional solid-state structures (e.g., new organic molecular crystals and metal-organic co-ordination polymers and framework solids (MOFs)), based on a bottom-up approach from smaller building blocks such as neutral organic molecules, and organic or inorganic ions. Typical design strategies use hydrogen bonds and coordination bonds, which define sub-structural units that are called respectively, supramolecular synthons and secondary building units. This subject cuts across the traditional divisions of organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry, making for a very eclectic blend of ideas, techniques, and strategies. This GRC and the accompanying GRS will provide a forum for the discussion of the current state of the art of this rapidly evolving, highly interdisciplinary field, will identify and debate open questions, and will point out new promising research directions. | | Webseite | http://www.grc.org/programs.aspx?year=2012&program=crystaleng | | Verwandte Fachgebiete | Angewandte Physik: Röntgen- und Synchrotronstrahlung, Kristallographie | | | | | 5.First International 'Graphene Science-2012 on 'Engineering & Applications of Fullerenes, Carbon Nanotubes & Semiconductors' | | Termin | 05.
