1.Emerging Researchers National (ERN) Conference in STEM
 Termin 23. Feb 2012 → 25. Feb 2012
[ID=460208] Zum Seitenanfang gehen
 OrtAtlanta, Georgia, Vereinigte Staaten
 Zusammenfassung The Emerging Researchers National (ERN) Conference in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is hosted by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Education and Human Resources Programs (EHR) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Human Resource Development (HRD), within the Directorate for Education and Human Resources (EHR). The conference is aimed at college and university undergraduate and graduate students who participate in programs funded by the NSF HRD Unit, including underrepresented minorities and persons with disabilities.

2.USTARS — Underrepresented Students in Topology and Algebra Research Symposium
 Termin 13. Apr 2012 → 15. Apr 2012
[ID=446246] Zum Seitenanfang gehen
 OrtUniversity of Iowa, Iowa City, Vereinigte Staaten
 Zusammenfassung The Underrepresented Students in Topology and Algebra Research Symposium (USTARS) is a project proposed by a group of underrepresented students and is largely run and organized by graduate students. After a successful first meeting in April 2011, the committee is planning the second meeting for April 13-15, 2012, at the University of Iowa, an institution known for its commitment to underrepresented student issues. In its second year the conference will be structured so that underrepresented speakers give 30-minute parallel research talks, and one distinguished graduate student and one invited faculty member will give 1-hour presentations. This year's meeting will also include a research poster session featuring undergraduate topology and algebra students from the VIGRE/ALLIANCE Summer REU held at the University of Iowa during the Summer of 2011 and those graduate students who do not give a 30-minute talk.

3.Summer@ICERM: Geometry and Dynamics
 Termin 18. Jun 2012 → 10. Aug 2012
[ID=449327] Zum Seitenanfang gehen
 OrtProvidence, Rhode Island, Vereinigte Staaten
 Zusammenfassung The Summer@ICERM program is designed for a select group of 10-12 undergraduate scholars. Students will work in small groups of two or three, supervised by a faculty advisor and aided by a teaching assistant. The faculty advisors will describe a variety of enticing open questions in geometry and in dynamical systems of geometric origin. Topics discussed will include Euclidean, hyperbolic and projective geometry, iteration of geometric constructions, and mathematical billiards. A variety of activities around these research themes will allow participants to engage in collaborative research, communicate and examine their findings in formal and informal settings, and report-out their findings with a finished product.

4.Model Theory
 Termin 23. Jul 2012 → 03. Aug 2012
[ID=446043] Zum Seitenanfang gehen
 OrtMathematical Sciences Research Institute, Berkeley, Vereinigte Staaten
 Zusammenfassung The workshop will consist of two minicourses, together with a selection of topical lectures. In the model theory course, o-minimality, and specifically the concrete example of the semi-algebraic sets of real numbers will provide the setting in which we introduce various fundamental results from model theory. The algebraic dynamics course will allow the introduction of concepts and proof techniques from number theory and algebraic geometryin the context of applications involving model theory. Toward the end of the workshop, the two minicourses will converge on the Pila-Wilkie theorem concerning points on analytic varieties, a result crucial in recent applications of o-minimality to diophantine geometry.

 Termin 02. Aug 2012 → 04. Aug 2012
[ID=443468] Zum Seitenanfang gehen
 OrtMadison, Wisconsin, Vereinigte Staaten
 Zusammenfassung The annual summer meeting of the Mathematical Association of America is the premier summertime event in mathematics. The meeting offers a substantial mathematical program that promises to be informative, inspiring, and productive.

6.ICERM Semester Program: Computational Challenges in Probability
 Termin 05. Sep 2012 → 07. Sep 2012
[ID=446308] Zum Seitenanfang gehen
 OrtICERM, Providence, Vereinigte Staaten
 Zusammenfassung Modern explorations in science, technology and medicine increasingly demand complex stochastic models. Computational and theoretical advances are needed in order to formulate, analyze, apply, and interpret these models. Recent years have witnessed a remarkable interplay between computation and probability. On the one hand, probabilistic techniques have led to powerful computational methods such as Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithms, while on the other hand, the calculation of probabilistic quantities such as modes and marginals of high-dimensional distributions and the analysis of data from random samples has posed several computational challenges. The fall 2012 semester on 'Computational Challenges in Probability' aims to bring together leading experts and young researchers who are advancing the use of probabilistic and computational methods to study complex models in a variety of fields. The goal is to identify common challenges, exchange existing tools, reveal new application areas.
