1.BioHydrology 2013 — Bio meets Hydrology: "Water for life"

Résumé	Under the motto "Bio Meets Hydrology", we bring together ideas and conceptions of environmental specialists from biological, chemical and physical sciences with the hydrological sciences to discuss and to merge methods and conceptions. "Water for Life" Biohydrology 2013 addresses many contemporary issues surrounding water scarcity, climate change and increase pressure on land. The conference focusses on the interaction between biological and hydrological systems, including positive impacts such as water harnessing and flood mitigation, and negative aspects including threats to food production, water repellency and environmental degradation through unsustainable land use practices. Experts from hydrology, ecology, soil science, geography, forestry and engineering will meet together in a forum designed to get different disciplines working together.

2.Neurizons 2013 - Solving the brain puzzle: Building minds from molecules

Résumé	This conference aims to provide a platform for scientific exchange between senior Neuroscientists and young researchers from all over the world to discuss their research and form networks. This year we present a program that not only brings the participants up to speed with the latest developments in the various fields of Neuroscience, but also offers a unique opportunity to tap into career prospects outside of academia during "Career talks". These four days will feature some of the most prominent scientists delivering lectures on one of the five advertised special topics; Higher brain function, Synaptic physiology and plasticity, sensory and motor systems, developmental and clinical neuroscience and emerging techniques. The keynote lecture will be given by Susumu Tonegawa. In addition, participants will have the chance for discussion not only during poster sessions and presentations but also during the numerous social activities.

8.The 15th EMBL PhD Symposium — Competition in Biology - The Race for Survival from Molecules to Systems

Résumé	From enzyme catalysis to ecosystems dynamics, biology is riddled with competition. DNA sequences compete for transcription factor binding to be expressed, cells in communities often compete for resources, pathogens compete against host immune systems, and on a larger scale, organisms compete against each other for limited resources in their environment. The Symposium is an annual event, organised by first-year PhD students at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg, Germany. It brings together fellow students from around the world, for a 3-day series of talks by leading experts but also by students themselves. Networking opportunities, poster sessions and workshops are also included in the programme.
