IX CBDC — IX Congreso de la Biodiversidad Caribeña / IX Caribbean Biodiversity Congress
ID
844982
Dates
31 jan 2017 - 03 fév 2017
Lieu
Santo Domingo, République dominicaine
Résumé
Under the Meeting IX Caribbean Biodiversity Congress, abstracts can be sent for participating at the Symposium: APPROACH TOWARD A SUSTAINABLE BIOMONITORING OF FRESHWATER ECOSYSTEMS’ HEALTH BASED ON OXIDATIVE STRESS MOLECULAR BIOMARKERS

Physical-chemical and chemical determinations currently employed for monitoring pollution are mainly based on qualitative and quantitative information about contaminants and freshwater quality, generally at high costs, providing indirect information and no direct biological interpretation of damage for these ecosystems. Thus, molecular biomarkers constitute a first approach for gathering information about cell damage and antioxidant response, early signals of ecosystems disorders. The main goal of the Symposium is focussed to generating debate about advantages using molecular biomarkers approach for biomonitoring ecosystems' health with respect to conventional chemical and physical-chemical methods. Thoughts must be focused about appropriateness and relevance of gathered information, nature of analysis to be done, costs and period for assays establishment during decision-making process; which allows a closer assessment of biological damage in ecosystem health introduced by pollutant sources and their environmental impact.

Alternative & Renewable Energy Quest in Architecture and Urbanism
ID
856726
Dates
01 fév 2017 - 03 fév 2017
Lieu
Barcelona, Espagne
Résumé
Alternative energy, being mainly considered as renewable energy, appears to be one of the pivotal ‘wedges’ that can combat global warming and stabilize the climate, through the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. Moreover, much of alternative energy is evenly distributed on earth and may be harvested in such way that can overcome the geographical inequalities.  The world is in critical need to search for alternative and renewable energy, where the importance of its technologies have been growing significantly. Due to a number of reasons, this is extremely important for the future of our society. Renewable energy still has a long way to go, in order to replace fossil fuels and become a primary source of energy consumption, but current policies, social awareness and academic research are definitely moving in the right direction.

Vernacular means native – it defines the soul of any environment, culture, architecture, language, cuisine, and life-style. It is a common identity of the place which will be sustainable and energy efficient. In this data-revolution packed century, the world has become a global village, and traditions and cultures have lost their local distinctiveness. Vernacular traditions in any field are a creative process developed by the interpretation of local knowledge, geographic opportunities, challenges, past-experiences, which are negotiated and adapted by generations to the meet the needs of the time. This conference will bring best resource persons from architecture and allied fields to speak on their experience and research. It will also encourage scholars, and activists to present papers, which would be published as a journal.

Dates
09 mai 2017 - 11 mai 2017
Lieu
Dubai, Émirats arabes unis
Résumé
With Success of 1st & 2nd Editions of GCC Waste Management Forum, IMNBI have taken the responsibilities to continue supporting GCC Waste Management Subject by Planning for this 3rd Edition.

The conference provides a forum for the exchange of scientific information and work on the current situation of waste management in GCC amongst professionals, researchers, government departments and local authorities. Waste Management is one of the key problems of modern society due to the ever-expanding volume and complexity of discarded domestic and industrial waste. Society is increasingly aware of the need to establish better practices and safer solutions for waste disposal. This requires further investigation into disposal methods and recycling as well as new technologies to monitor landfills, industrial mining wastes and chemical and nuclear repositories. This creates a need for more research on current disposal methods such as landfills, incineration, chemical and effluent treatment, as well as recycling, clean technologies, waste monitoring, public and corporate awareness, and general education. Unfortunately, many of the policies adopted in the past were aimed at short term solutions without due regard to the long term implications on health and the environment, leading in many cases to the need to take difficult and expensive remedial action. The desired direction of Waste Management is towards sustainable strategies
