Résumé: CHEMPOR traditionally gathers academics, scientists, engineers, manufacturers and end users to discuss recent developments in different areas of Chemical and Biological Engineering. One of the major topics of the conference program is Life Quality, due to the importance that Chemical and Biological Engineering plays in this area. This is complemented with additional topics including Engineering Sciences and Fundamentals, Industrial Processes and Process Systems Engineering.

Résumé: The conference aims to provide an opportunity for all delegates to interface with subject matter experts from testing laboratories, supporting gas, oil, petrochemical, and water industries in addition to meeting with scientists, engineers, academics and technologists from all over the world. The conference provides a forum for issues involving the laboratory management and adopts a structured approach towards solving the increasingly complex product quality manufacturing issues faced by refiners today.

Résumé: The conference ICCE'08 is held under the World Congress on Engineering and Computer Science WCECS 2008. The WCECS 2008 is organized by the International Association of Engineers (IAENG), a non-profit international association for the engineers and the computer scientists. The congress has the focus on the frontier topics in the theoretical and applied engineering and computer science subjects. The last IAENG conference in 2006 has attracted more than four hundred participants from over 30 countries. All submitted papers will be under peer review and accepted papers will be published in the conference proceeding (ISBN: 978-988-98671-0-2). The abstracts will be indexed and available at major academic databases. The accepted papers will also be considered for publication in the special issues of the journal Engineering Letters, in IAENG journals and in edited books.

Résumé: This Conference is dedicated to process chemistry and organic synthesis with an emphasis on the science and technology associated with the synthesis and manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The aim is to showcase the use of PAT as a tool for increasing process understanding, robustness, reproducibility and efficiency in API manufacture, both in development and commercial production. Regulatory and QA issues will be touched upon where appropriate.

Résumé: Operating a commercially viable chemical process requires a good chemical synthesis to start with, but is also subject to the interplay of a myriad of important physical phenomena, traditionally the realm of the chemical engineer. An understanding of these scale-up phenomena is crucial for the laboratory development of processes that will scale successfully. This course presents an overview of these issues, giving guidance as to how to ensure effective translation of laboratory processes to pilot plant scale.

Résumé: With the first edition of the EPIC 2007 (European Process Intensification Conference), EFCE (European Federation of Chemical Engineering) Working Party on Process Intensification (PI) has launched a new series of biannual European conferences focused on Process Intensification (PI). “Process Intensification provides radically innovative principles in process and equipment design which can benefit process and chain efficiency, capital and operating expenses, quality, wastes, process safety and more” (from the study “European Roadmap for Process Intensification”, 2008).

PI is a new approach to process and plant design that greatly contributes to increase the economic and environmental sustainability through resources minimization (energy and feedstock), improved environmental and safety performance.

EPIC 2009 represents a great opportunity for the participants (scientists, researchers, practitioners, and technology providers) to discuss and share experiences on the current-status of the field, the latest developments, and the future needs. The conference focuses primarily on illustrating and discussing how the interactions among phenomena, equipments, and operations can contribute to enhance the processing performance efficiency. Contributions discussing innovative concepts and ideas, application-oriented technologies, and interdisciplinary research are welcome.

EPIC 2009 will be jointly organized with GPE 2009 because the two conference objectives integrate themselves. While GPE mainly focuses on the processes and technologies that provide the tools for “green chemistry”, EPI tackles the methodologies and technologies that result in improved sustainability, efficiency and environmental performance.

Résumé: Green Process Engineering - Environmentally Conscious Design of Chemical Processes - is one facet of the broad issue of sustainability. It provides some answers to the question "How can chemical engineering practice and technology help to move the products and processes towards sustainability?" Green Process Engineering is based on the design and use of processes and products, which are feasible and economical, whilst minimizing pollution and risks to human health and the environment.

This second event is coupled with EPIC 2009 and both are supported by EFCE (European Federation of Chemical Engineering). It will be held in spring 2009 in Venice.

Focused on Process Engineering, the congress provides a unique opportunity for discussion between chemical engineers and scientists of various chemical disciplines in order to favor synergies between innovative chemical routes and new application technologies. This conference also aims at bringing together leading international researchers from industry, academia, and governmental institutions to discuss the current status of the field, as well as to assess the progress of "green product design" and the advances in the integration of green engineering into global solutions for sustainability.

Résumé: The aim of the course is to give lab chemists an understanding of the issues that need to be considered during the early stages of scale up to large laboratory scale equipment (10-20 litre vessels) / kilo lab. The course will concentrate on chemical safety and selectivity issues and include information on what safety testing equipment is available and the uses and limitations of this equipment. Attendees will learn how to identify potential problems whether they be thermal hazards or selectivity issues. Methods used by other companies for handling hazardous reagents and reactions will be described as well as alternative chemistry to circumvent these reactions and/or reagents

Résumé: This is the major international forum for the discussion of technical aspects of scale-up at the chemistry/chemical engineering interface. Topics include: the scale up of batch and semi-batch processes, continuous processing and reaction engineering, microreactor technology, safety and thermochemistry, scale up of potentially hazardous chemistry, green chemistry, quality assurance and regulatory concerns, solid form control (crystallisation and polymorphism), separation and purification techniques, and new technologies and equipment for large scale manufacture.

Résumé: Canada and Montréal will welcome the international chemical engineering community to the 8th World Congress of Chemical Engineering (WCCE8), at the downtown Palais des Congrès de Montréal, August 23 to 27, 2009. WCCE8’s technical program will emphasize the key role played by chemical engineers from all around the world in developing the processes and products needed by humanity in a more sustainable way—as highlighted in the Congress’s overall theme “Challenges for a Changing World”.
