Résumé: The 1st Workshop on Open Source Software for Computer and Network Forensics (OSSCoNF) will be held in conjunction with OSS2008, the Fourth International Conference on Open Source Systems, during the IFIP WCC2008 World Computing Congress. The conference will take place in September 7-10, 2008, in Milan, Italy. Workshops will be on September 10th, immediately after the main OSS2008 conference.

OSSCoNF aims at creating an informal, but selected academic venue to discuss the benefits (and drawbacks, if any) of using Free, Libre, and Open Source Software (FLOSS) for computer and network forensics, incident management and digital investigations.

Résumé: Modern societies establish socio-economic or industrial metabolisms to supply the need of their inhabitants. In this perspective sustainability can be taken as an overall concept to maintain the socio-economic metabolism in the long run, e.g., sustainable use of resources and energy, impacts of products and processes on climate, climate change impacts on value chains etc. To monitor actual condition and development of metabolisms with aid of metabolic key indicators, various complementary modeling approaches are required, e.g. continuous and discrete event simulation, material flow analysis, often based on spatial data, life cycle assessment, environmental risk management, environmental management accounting. Résumé: The ambition to design allocation mechanisms and voting rules that satisfy various desirable criteria (efficiency, strategy-proofness, fairness, equality, anonymity, neutrality, etc.) has a long tradition and also been high on the agenda of economic research in recents decades. The research has been successful in characterizing various mechanisms in terms of their elementary properties, and thus made them transparent and comparable, but also pointed to the difficulty of constructing a mechanism with the capacity of simultaneously satisfying several such desirable criteria in general settings. This area is a highly interdisciplinary area ranging from numerical analysis and algorithm design to programming languages, computer architectures, software and real applications.
