2.JEMS 2012 — Joint European Magnetic Symposia 2012

Résumé	The Joint European Magnetic Symposia are the most important and comprehensive conference on magnetism in Europe. JEMS 2012 is the sixth edition of the event and will be held in Parma, Italy, between September 9th and 14th, 2012. Previous JEMS conferences took place in Grenoble (2001), Dresden (2004), San Sebastian (2006), Dublin (2008) and Krakow (2010). The Symposia will focus on a broad range of topics embracing applicative and fundamental aspects of magnetism, as well as novel magnetic materials. Presentations will consist of plenary, semi-plenary, and contributed talks, complemented by poster sessions. A number of invited speakers will give lectures on important recent advances in the field. The attendance of young students is welcome. The meeting is organized jointly by the Physics Department of the University of Parma and by the IMEM-CNR Institute.

3.Probing the Extremes of Matter with Heavy ions

Résumé	The Erice International School on Nuclear Physics was founded by Prof. H. Schopper in 1974. Subsequently it was organized by Sir Denys Wilkinson until 1983. From the beginning, the topics of the school have been chosen in young and fast expanding fields at the interphase between nuclear, particle, and astrophysics. The idea is to bring together internationally highly recognized experts in the field with young scientists and Ph. D. students. In the morning the experts give review lectures on the current ample status of a special topic, while the afternoon is mainly devoted to seminars of the participants leaving time for discussions and special topical schools.
