Résumé: Issues on Climate change had been a long term debate. It had been started on 1970's, based on a paradigm that everything in the world is interconnected, such that when irresponsible environment's unfriendly activities pursue, like deforestations and green house gases waste producing ones, an atmospheric hole will be formed causing an atmospheric temperature increase and in turn making polar ice melt and seawater rise. An overal change of wind characteristics and oceanic current accrue, and thusly the climate change. To date the issue imposes a central discourse in politics and science alike, due to its impacts to the world and its foreseeable future.

Résumé: This conference will be of interest to scientists, engineers and representatives from governments and companies, which are active in marine research and technological development. The main topics cover new methods and technologies in ocean exploration.

Résumé: The productivity and diversity of marine ecosystems act as invaluable natural resource which is vital to the survival and well being of the human kind. This is especially crucial for a maritime nations like Malaysia. Today, increasing human activities such as over-fishing, coastal development, pollution, introduction of exotic species and climate change have caused significant damage that could pose a serious threat to this fragile environment.

Marine resource management has become one of the most challenging problems faced by nations worldwide. Transboundary and integrated marine resource management strategies are crucial to ensure the future sustainability of the ecosystem. Hence it is timely to initiate this International Conference on Marine Ecosystem which focuses on discussing and addressing issues related to challanges in maintaining the sustainability of the ecosystem. This conference offers an opportunity for marine experts to share and explore cutting edge technology and knowledge in marine sciences to ensure long term stability of this natural heritage.

Résumé: The international conference theme is “Partnerships at Work: Local Implementation and Good Practices” that will highlight initiatives and good practices covering key aspects of coastal and marine resource management and how interregional, interagency and multisectoral partnerships contributing to regional and international environmental targets. The EAS Congress 2009 is being organized by the Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA) together with the Department of Environment of Natural Resources (DENR) of the Philippines and supported by the Global Environment Facility, United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Office for Project Services and Coastal Management Center.
