Résumé: Established in 1974, the ELOPTO Conference Series is dedicated to the field of colloidal and molecular electrooptics. ELOPTO 2010 is the 12. conference in this series and held under the special theme "Electrooptics – a fresh look at a traditional field". In fact, since its beginnings the field has been considerably expanding and now includes experiments theory and simulations on the electrooptics of liquid crystals, colloidal model systems, polymers and biosystems. For many advanced applications, simple data communications approaches, such as intensity modulation with direct detection, are no longer adequate given data impairments, increased system capacity, and required spectral efficiency. As an example, more advanced equalizer and forward error correction (FEC) technologies are now penetrating into high-end metro and core networks as well as into lower-end short MMF link equipment. The system gain has been quite dramatic, adding several dBs of performance.

Résumé: FiO 2013 - the 97th OSA Annual Meeting - and LS XXIX unite the OSA and American Physical Society (APS) communities for five days of quality, cutting-edge presentations, fascinating invited speakers and a variety of special events.
