3.6th Annual Integrative Medicine for Mental Health Conference
 Dates 17 Sep 2015 → 20 Sep 2015
[ID=693012] Haut de la page
 LieuSan Diego, États-Unis
 Résumé This international conference will explore the field of Integrative Medicine in the treatment of mental health, autism, and related disorders. The current trial-and-error, poly-pharmacy approach to the treatment of psychiatric disorders may not work for everyone. Research studies have revealed that many disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, OCD, eating disorders, and autism spectrum disorders often have dietary and biological causes which contribute to symptoms. Patients have better outcomes when these causes are successfully addressed and treated through a combination of specialized testing and nutritional therapies, even in combination with traditional approaches.

Indeed the fields of cell injury, inflammation, and neoplasia have undergone an unprecedented growth as we reinforce and challenge existing paradigms and discover new ones. PISA is aimed at delivering attendees the most exciting and up-to-date concepts in the cellular and molecular basis of injury, inflammation, and neoplasia and their relationship in pathology. World acclaimed scientists in these areas will deliver lectures, while experienced members of the program committee will moderate discussion during these sessions to generate cordial, collegial and contemporary environment for learning and networking. The major lectures will be interspersed with abstract-driven talks. Additionally, poster discussion sessions held in proximity to the major talks will build an intimate setting for intellectual exchange and constructive criticism, especially for trainees and junior faculty. 31.Biology of Down Syndrome: Impacts Across the Biomedical Spectrum
 Dates 10 Jan 2016 → 14 Jan 2016
[ID=739923] Haut de la page
 LieuSanta Fe, États-Unis
 Résumé Down syndrome (DS) arises from an extra copy of an entire human chromosome, 21 (Hsa21) (trisomy 21), resulting in a wide constellation of phenotypes; in addition to learning and memory deficits, there are greatly increased risks for congenital heart defects, early-onset Alzheimer’s disease and leukemia. DS is a common disorder, with a prevalence of around 1 in 750 births, a frequency that is not diminishing despite the availability of pre-natal diagnosis. It is the leading genetic cause of cognitive impairment. DS is a disorder of gene dosage for one or more of the ~300 genes on Hsa21, affecting many different systems, with variable severity and expressivity. Research into DS has recently come of age with the development of sophisticated cell and animal models, novel biological findings and clinical trials of therapeutics. Despite this growing research into DS and the number of people affected by it, there is no regular scientific meeting devoted to the syndrome. This interdisciplinary Keystone Symposia meeting on DS brings together experts from disparate research fields (genetics, development, stem cell biology and neuroscience), all focused on the effects of trisomy 21. The goals of the meeting are to: 1) Provide an interdisciplinary meeting covering all aspects of DS research from genetics and cell biology using animal models to human studies and therapy; 2) Encourage interactions and new interdisciplinary collaborations in DS research; 3) Set standards for animal models, cellular assays and clinical phenotyping relevant to DS; 4) Provide a forum in which academia and industry can interact in order to promote translation of research toward therapy.

 Résumé Fibrosis is the primary process of many diseases and the end-stage of many more, frequently leading to organ failure. However, the mechanisms leading to fibrosis have been poorly understood and available therapeutics targeting fibrosis limited. Increasingly, fibrosis is understood as a dynamic process that is orchestrated by the immune system, or activated by inflammation or cellular stress. Fibrosis of lung, kidney, skin, liver and muscle typically follow a variety of different stimuli. Advances in understanding Th2 cell responses, cell death, the inflammasome and ER and oxidative stresses provide new insights into such stimuli. Understanding the regulation of and interaction between profibrotic cytokines such as TGFb, IL-13, and CTGF are shedding additional light on fibrotic processes. Recent studies indicate that fibrosis is mediated by dedicated progenitor and resident cells within target tissues. Fibroblast and perivascular cell phenotype and differentiation are regulated not only by cytokines, but also by matrix composition and stiffness. Advances in the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and systemic sclerosis herald many new anti-fibrotic therapies that will soon enter clinical trials. Thus, mechanistic understandings will soon answer the long-standing clinical challenges of fibrotic and end-stage scarring diseases.
