The current Raytheon Company formed after the 1997 merger of the Hughes Electronics defense operations (Hughes Aircraft) and Raytheon. After the 1997 merger, Hughes Research Laboratories was legally renamed “HRL Laboratories, LCC” with GM and Raytheon co-owners. In 2007, Raytheon sold its stake in HRL, though it still maintained research and contractual relations. A history of laser development and applications at Hughes/Raytheon will be presented as well as current laser work being accomplished at Raytheon. Presenters include Dan Nieuwsma and Matthew Cox of Raytheon, other presenters are being arranged including a panel of laser pioneers that were on hand when Maiman turned on the first ruby laser!

The first would address the coastal ocean and watersheds, with sessions emphasizing the inter-disciplinary nature of the topic. Résumé: The OSA presents a new meeting in the area of optics for solar energy. The focus on the optics includes their design, modeling, integration of novel materials, manufacture, testing, deployment in the field, economic considerations, and field results. The goal of this meeting is to bring together the researchers, engineers, and managers developing and using optics for the generation of solar energy to encourage active discussion. All forms of solar energy generation, transmission, and storage from thermal to photovoltaic to novel methods will be covered in this forum. The program will highlight the solar energy field through keynote and invited speakers spanning the technology, modeling, public policy, and financial areas.

Résumé: Photonic Metamaterials and Plasmonics (META) will bring together the two scientific communities of nanoplasmonics and metamaterials, both of which deal with tailored metal/dielectric and metal/semiconductor nanostructures.
