Lecture — The role of Universities in Defining our Future
18 Oct 2018 • Garching, Germany
Abstract:
The Air and Space Academy (AAE) is delighted to announce a forthcoming lecture by Prof. Iain Gray, CBE FREng FRSE FRAes, Director of Aerospace, Cranfield University, on the theme "The role of Universities in Defining our Future", which will take place at 17:30 pm, on 18 October, at the Technical University Munich (MW 1801 - Boltzmannstr. 15 - Garching).

Attendance is free but we would ask you to register : http://www.academie-air-espace.com/event/newdetail.php?varCat=23&varId=531&langue=uk

It is said that we are on the cusp of a new technology revolution in aerospace with exciting developments happening in electrification, artificial intelligence autonomy and new materials. There is no doubt that the role that research across our universities has played is a key to this new opportunity. The lecture explores just what this role for our universities is and how it differs across Europe. It examines just what the interface between business and universities is and identifies potential solutions to make this relationship more effective. The lecture discusses progress against these disruptive technology objectives and asks the question ‘what the future will look like’ and ‘how can universities working with business make this technology revolution become a commercial success?

Military Airlift and Air-to-Air Refuelling Conference and Focus Day
03 Dec 2018 - 05 Dec 2018 • Rome, United Kingdom
Abstract:
The 19th annual Military Airlift and Air-Air Refuelling conference and exhibition will return to Rome on the 4th and 5th December 2018, with a brand-new pre-conference focus day on Air-Air Refuelling on the 3rd December 2018.

With the airlift sector in constant development, there are more than 800 new platforms set to be delivered at a combined value over $65 billion in the next 10 years. The need to transport troops, cargo, medical supplies, vehicles and other mission critical equipment remains fundamental to any defence force that aims to deploy globally. The importance of ready rapid response to ensure these forces can be mobilised and moved quickly is crucial for any expeditionary operation.

Sustaining and maintaining this air mobility feeds into the second aspect of this important event. Air-to-Air refuelling remains vital to deliver extended flight time for both transport and strike components of an air force and without which extended aerial deployments would simply not be possible.

KEY FOCUSES INCLUDE:

• Forward basing and expeditionary operations

• International operability

• Training

• Airlift platform acquisition

• Air-air refuelling

• Medevac

• Pooling and sharing

• Tactical, humanitarian and strategic airlift

• Ground support equipment

TWIOS — 2019 IEEE Topical Workshop on Internet of Space
20 Jan 2019 - 23 Jan 2019 • Orlando, FL, United States
Abstract:
Addresses the wild west of space applications, often called NewSpace, Entrepreneurial space, or Commercial Space. It is the emergent private spaceflight industry, with a special emphasis on microwave hardware. There has been a renaissance of interest and investment in space- and suborbital-based high-data-rate communications networks and other application. Since the signal transit times are small enough, many more applications are feasible: the creation of a world wide car-to-car communications network or global sensor & control systems for autonomous vehicles. The Internet of Space (IoS) is ahead of the innovation curve; it is at a very early stage, so focused discussions can make great progress.
