Jean-Morlet Chair Whole Semester on Geometry, Topology, and Group Theory in Dimension 3 (Genevieve Walsh and Luisa Paoluzzi)
01 Feb 2018 - 31 Jul 2018 • CIRM Luminy, France
Abstract:
This semester of the Jean-Morlet Chair will feature several events. Firstly, a large conference focusing on the structure of 3-manifold groups, as well as on structures of groups inspired by structures on 3-manifolds?such as PD(3) groups, relatively hyperbolic groups, and building. Secondly, a research school for PhD students and recent post-docs, centering on current research in 3-Manifolds and Geometric Group Theory, and looking at the interplay between the two topics. Thirdly, a medium-size workshop centering on extremely current topics and taking into account Cannon's conjecture and related conjectures, the relation to QIs, CAT(0) boundaries, boundaries of hyperbolic buildings, relatively hyperbolic groups, and rigidity. Masterclasses for local students and Research in Pairs events will also be held during the semester.

Connectivity 2018 — Les structures connectives : catégories, topologie, interactivité
31 May 2018 • St Ouen (Paris), France
Abstract:

3-Manifolds and Geometric Group Theory
11 Jun 2018 - 15 Jun 2018 • CIRM, Marseille-Luminy, France
Abstract:
The aim of this one-week school is to bring PhD students and recent post-docs up-to-date on current research happening in Geometric Group Theory and 3-manifolds. We will focus in particular on the interplay between the two topics, where the theory of hyperbolic 3-manifolds is an important influence in the modern theory of hyperbolic groups and their relatives.
