Qualitative Methods in KPZ Universality
24 Apr 2017 - 27 Apr 2017
CIRM Luminy, France
Universality of Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) scalings is a very active area in statistical mechanics and mathematical physics. A big progress was achieved very recently in deriving exact formulas related to Tracy-Widom distributions and Airy processes. However, despite very clean and concrete predictions and a wide belief in the validity of the conjectures, little progress has been achieved in our understanding of the problem of universality. The proposed workshop-part of the Jean-Morlet Chair semester awarded to Konstantin Khanin and Senya Shlosman-will concentrate on qualitative methods which are applicable in a very general situation. One of the strategies is based on the analysis of global solutions to the random Hamilton-Jacobi equation. This workshop will focus on the problem of universality.
