CIMPA Research School: Topics in Ring Theory

Topics in Ring Theory is a CIMPA Research School that will be hosted in Cape Town from July 16-28, 2018, in partnership with the University of Cape Town and the African Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS). The school is aimed at masters and PhD students who wish to learn about and engage in some active areas of contemporary algebra. The school will be hosted at the AIMS campus in Muizenberg, a suburb of Cape Town overlooking False Bay and the Indian Ocean. The following courses will be run: Herstein theory, An introduction to Lie algebras, Groebner bases for algebras and operads, An exceptional Lie algebra: G_2, A first introduction to categorical algebra, Ample groupoid algebras, and Leavitt path algebras. There will also be a number of research talks by international speakers and a poster competition for graduate students.
