Allostery and molecular machines
19. Jun 2017 - 20. Jun 2017 • London, Großbritannien
Zusammenfassung:
Royal Society discussion meeting organised by Professor George Lorimer FRS, Professor Tom McLeish FRS and Professor Amnon Horovitz. Many cellular processes are facilitated by multi-subunit, motor- proteins. These biological machines exploit allostery and the formation of distinct conformational states resulting from cycles of ligand binding and release, driven by the hydrolysis of ATP. We aim to discuss the latest experimental and computational approaches, so as to enhance our understanding of the structural changes underlying the operation of these molecular machines.

This bioinformatics course is presented by the Centre for Genomic Research and funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). It primarily focuses on practical computer sessions designed to provide delegates with hands-on experience of the informatics involved in analysing metagenomic and metagenetic datasets. The 16S rRNA gene profiling (metagenetics) and shotgun sequence based metagenomics are now well established and can be utilised to characterise complex populations. The course will provide a 2-day introduction to the conceptual and practical issues involved in analysing such datasets, generated from the Illumina NGS platforms.

FASEB SRC — Protein Kinases and Protein Phosphorylation
06. Aug 2017 - 11. Aug 2017 • Cambridge, Großbritannien
Zusammenfassung:
This conference focuses on the biology of protein kinases and phosphorylation signaling. Among FASEB’s longest-running SRCs, it brings together a dynamic international community of junior investigators, trainees, and established researchers from a field that is achieving startling new insight and medical breakthroughs. The program will link detailed understanding of protein structure and biochemical mechanism to control of large-scale processes like the cell division cycle, cell morphogenesis, and metabolism. This SRC will explore the field’s latest research, which is revealing surprising mechanisms of regulation, previously unappreciated subcellular organization, logic of pathways that coordinate diverse intracellular systems. Importantly, derangement of kinase signaling underlies disease, including cancer and diabetes. Drugs targeting kinases and phosphorylation have achieved dramatic cures and promise more, and the conference has consistently offered a robust platform for clinically important work.

Insulin — Insulin and exercise signalling for glucose homeostasis and metabolic health
06. Sep 2017 - 08. Sep 2017 • Bath, Großbritannien
Zusammenfassung:
It has become very evident that there are multiple-levels of interaction between the insulin signalling pathway leading to stimulation of glucose transport in insulin-target tissues and the signalling events that occur downstream of exercise and dietary inputs. The aim of this timely meeting is to generate valuable discussion focused on the multiple pathways leading to stimulation of glucose transport in insulin-target tissues and address the mechanistic biochemical basis for these interactions.

Advances in Cellular Therapy
12. Sep 2017 - 14. Sep 2017 • Online, Großbritannien
Zusammenfassung:
With major advances in cell and molecular biology, the potential of cellular therapies is now beginning to be realised. Stem cell and T cell-based products are being developed for the treatment of a wide range of therapeutic applications, including cancer, autoimmunity, and degenerative diseases. In many cases, they can offer a novel means of treating previously unmet medical needs. Sophisticated bioengineering techniques are increasingly being incorporated into the production of cellular therapies, such as CAR-T cells, extending their therapeutic range. However, as treatments move from the laboratory into the clinic, it is essential that robust, reliable and economically viable scaling and manufacturing processes are developed for the commercialisation of cell-based therapies. This event will provide an opportunity to for those involved at all stages of the product life cycle to discuss recent successes and continuing challenges in the development, manufacture and clinical application of cell therapies.
