Zusammenfassung:
Electrodeposition is widely being used in the fabrication of materials and devices, and most recently this technique has been successfully applied to the fabrication of various components in energy conversion systems. This course will offer the opportunity to students, researchers and practitioners with a variety of technical backgrounds to be introduced for the first time or to refresh their understanding of the fundamentals of the technique, as well as to gain a perspective of its potentials in nanostructure fabrication, with particular focus on energy conversion and storage application. In this course the attendees will gain practical knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the synthesis of catalysts for fuel cells, components for batteries and capacitors, and radiation absorbers for photovoltaic and photelectrochemical devices.

This Short Course provides a foundation for understanding the general principles of LIB safety hazards and failure modes analysis. The effects of LIB chemical, electrical, thermal, and mechanical design features on safety characteristics is presented. Thermal runaway mechanisms are discussed in terms of risk factors that influence thermal runaway such as cell chemistry, battery design, operating conditions, and other factors. A special focus on LIB safety testing, implementation of industry standards, and lessons-learned from high-visibility industry LIB incidents is provided. The severity and consequences of catastrophic LIB failures is also presented with practical examples of how real-life industry LIB safety incident outcomes have been evaluated.

It is targeted toward people with a physical sciences or engineering background who have not been trained as electrochemists, but want to add electrochemical methods to their repertoire of research approaches. There are many fields in which researchers originally approach their work from another discipline but then discover that it would be advantageous to understand and use some electrochemical methods to complement their work.

This course is intended for chemists, physicists, materials scientists, and engineers with an interest in applying electrochemical impedance techniques to study a broad variety of electrochemical processes. Attendees develop a basic understanding of the technique, sources of errors in impedance measurements, manner in which experiments can be optimized to reduce these errors, and use of graphical and regression methods to interpret measurements in terms of meaningful physical properties.
