Boushehr port has a long history. The docks, as well as its related facilities, have been constructed and developed in different time periods. These developments based on the needs and necessities of the time in which the project constructed and therefor, to solve the problems of that time. On the other hand, in recent years, the function of the port, especially in the container sector, has increased and so, the organization was planning to repair the facilities and restore and improve the infrastructures of the port as an improvement project. In this regard, the organization has programmed a Value Engineering (VE) study to save unnecessary costs and improve the quality of the project.

The scope of this VE study on the infrastructure and facilities of Bushehr port was limited to the middle zone of Bushehr port.

The value engineering study was carried out in accordance with the requirement of the Ports and Maritime Organization to use this management tool in this project.

For the workshop of this study, the VE facilitating team selected some highly qualified independent experts according to the different disciplines in the project scope. At last, the combination of value team was identified in terms of expertise and independence.

The cost of base case for this project was estimated over 4 million dollars by the engineer. The value engineering study team has suggested using of some new technologies in this port. All of the ideas has developed and presented to the client in comparison with the base case. The potential saving for the optimum combination of value engineering proposals was 0.6 million dollars with a great potential of increasing the project quality and performance and organizational revenue from this port.
