Optimizations for enhancing the future thermal performance of buildings' envelopes using GRC & Aerated concrete blocks in hot arid zones
Mohamed Mahdy
Architecture Department, Military Technical Collage, Cairo, Egypt

The main concern for this work is to identify the optimum material to be used among the two new materials introduced to the Egyptian construction market in the past few years, in addition to evaluate their thermal behavior against the traditional used materials. The aim is to enhance the overall thermal performance of residential buildings' envelopes in Egypt under different climate change scenarios. The comparison for optimization will be held between three main parameters: thermal comfort, energy consumption, and financial appraisal (which will assess the initial cost and the annual running cost for energy consumption over the long term). Results that emerged through simulations (via DesignBuilder software) are interesting for a wide range of decision makers, architects, and to those interested in the construction industry in Egypt.
