CLMPST XVI — 16th Congress of Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science and Technology
05 aou 2019 - 16 sep 2019 • Prague, République tchèque
Résumé:
The 16th Congress of Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science and Technology (CLMPST) will take place in Prague, August 5-10, 2019, organised under the auspices of the Division for Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science and Technology of the International Union for History and Philosophy of Science and Technology (DLMPST/IUHPST) by the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The congress has a long history and a unique character, bringing together the communities of logicians, philosophers of logic and philosophers and historians of science and technology. The theme of the 16th edition of the congress is "Bridging across academic cultures". We believe that the communities and societies in both logic and philosophy/history of science are often fragmented and isolated from each other. We want to contribute to redressing this state of things.

TDW 2019 — Tirana Design Week 2019 | Foreseeing Uncertainty: Design and non-normativity
17 sep 2019 - 29 sep 2019 • Tirana, Albanie
Résumé:
Tirana Design Week (TDW) this year, in 2019, approaches Tirana’s 100th anniversary as the capital of Albania. Comparing photos of a bucolic Tirana in 1920 with what one sees from Polis University’s fourth floor today, inevitably raises doubts about the endurance of design, while conspicuously evincing the fluctuating tendency of what constitutes a norm in a world continuously oscillating between what is desired or imagined as an endogenous equilibrium and exogenous menaces. The objective of Tirana Design Week is to draw current research and design practices, as well as theoretical speculations on the topic of uncertainty and non-normativity in multiple scales and contexts, in and from the city of Tirana, with the latter understood as a dis-position, a tendency to change position.

Klausurwoche: „Bioökonomie und moderne Biotechnologien: Ethische, rechtliche und soziale Aspekte“
23 sep 2019 - 27 sep 2019 • Bonn, Allemagne

Lecture — The Most Important Experiment in Physics: The Double Slit Experiment
05 dec 2019 • Lennard Jones Laboratories, Keele University, Royaume-Uni
Organisateur:
Institute of Physics – IOP
Résumé:
The most important experiments in Physics, you can easily reproduce by yourself. This includes Galileo's free fall experiment, Archimedes' buoyancy (Eureka) and Eratosthenes' cast shadow from the Sun at its zenith. One of these timeless breakthroughs of the human mind into the secrets of the Universe - the double-slit experiment - ranks well above all the others, if only because, although equally simple, it still baffles Physicists to this day. It was so subversive by the time Young proposed it that Newton waited for him to die before publishing his Opticks. In this talk, Prof. Laussy will discuss why and what it has to tell us about the World we live in, from whether "things" are waves or particles, to the nature of reality.
