As novel reactor concepts approach deployment, reactor physicists are faced with new stimulating challenges to move simulation blueprints towards real-world implementation. In San Francisco, the world’s cradle of innovations, PHYSOR 2024 will cast the spotlight on the latest advancements in reactor physics and related nuclear technologies and debate the challenges that need to be addressed. The conference aims to provide a platform for international experts from vendors, utilities, research laboratories, and universities to exchange ideas and latest developments on a wide spectrum of topics. Technical sessions include a broad range of topics such as advanced reactor designs, machine learning and artificial intelligence applications, experimental reactor physics, space nuclear technologies, and advanced fuel cycles. The conference will also include plenary sessions focusing on advanced reactor design development and demonstration programs, panel sessions, and several workshops on state-of-the-art reactor physics tools.

In this summer school, we will discuss a variety of theoretical approaches for computing nuclear reaction observables. We plan to introduce some of the most utilized reaction methods, namely the eikonal approximation, DWBA, ADWA, CDCC and Faddeev methods. This 3-day course will be useful for both theorists and experimentalists interested in learning the fundamentals of reaction methods. This will also be a wonderful opportunity for the participants to start collaborations with each other or the instructors on projects beyond the duration of summer school. Please join us in East Lansing this summer to explore a wide range of theoretical approaches to describe nuclear reactions.

Depending on the reaction channel, direct determinations of neutron-induced reaction cross sections on stable and unstable isotopes for energies above 1 keV cross face different challenges. Neutron capture, neutron-induced fission, charged-particle production, elastic and inelastic scatterings are important and of interest for astrophysics and nuclear applications. With the existing neutron beam capabilities, available radioactive isotope productions, and ideas for future facilities, we want to discuss directions and possible solutions for current challenges in an informal and constructive atmosphere. In particular the usage of ion storage rings to investigate neutron-induced reactions will be a focus of the IReNA workshop.

This conference is the premier meeting on the use of instrumentation in the Nuclear and Medical fields, and we are anticipating a vibrant meeting with ample synergy and overlap between the three main areas of the conference, fostering discussions between world leading scientists that work on similar problems, but possibly in different areas.
