CyPhy'19 — Model-Based Design of Cyber Physical Systems

Résumé:
Model-Based Design of Cyber Physical Systems (CyPhy'19) is the ninth instance of a workshop that takes a broad interpretation of the area and aims to facilitate the timely consolidation and sharing of new knowledge from a diverse disciplines. Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) combine computing and networking power with physical components. They are a challenging domain for innovation that encompasses robotics; smart homes, buildings, and mobility solutions; medical implants; drones, and numerous others. CPSs are the medium through which next-generation Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applications will be deployed, and are a growing source of big data. CyPhy'19 brings together researchers and practitioners working on next-generation technologies for modeling, development, analysis, simulation, optimization, evaluation, and deployment of CPSs.

The goals of the meeting are a cross-fertilization of ideas from different application areas, and increased communication between the mathematicians who develop dynamical systems techniques and the applied scientists who use them.
Sujets:
Pure and applied analysis, including differential equations and dynamical systems, in the broadest sense. The application areas are diverse and multidisciplinary, covering areas of applied science and engineering that include biology, chemistry, physics, finance, industrial mathematics and more, in the forms of modeling, computations and simulation.

Mathematical Challenges and Opportunities for Autonomous Vehicles

Résumé:
Autonomous vehicle (AV) research and development has achieved a similar status in terms of money invested, societal excitement, and media coverage as space travel and exploration. At the same time, AV research is not rocket science; it is more complicated: while in itself, an AV is no more complex than a spacecraft, it must reliably interact and communicate with many other agents, particularly humans both inside and outside of the vehicle, much of it in a de-centralized fashion. Hence, AVs, and their impact on us humans and our transportation systems, incur some of the most complicated science and engineering challenges that we shall face in the near future. At the same time, there is some disconnect across the various research communities: professional product development is highly opaque, and public expectations and media communications are frequently inaccurate or exaggerated.
