The International Union of Soil Sciences; The Italian Society of Soil Science

The custodian of soil science will celebrate its centennial contribute to the nature and human wellbeing in 2024. The event will also empower the linkages with different disciplines, policy makers, stakeholders, institutions, and associations to effectively address civil society needs within agriculture, forestry, environment, urban planning, energy, education, and other societal issues. The celebration will occur on May 19th and will be followed by two intense days of congress, with plenary and parallel scientific sessions. Both soil scientists and specialists from other disciplines will participate to each session, focusing on past achievements and future challenges. The congress will be followed by technical/scientific excursions that will range from short local to long trips, spanning from Alps to Sicily. A pre-congress visit to Villa Lubin in Rome, the historical place where the IUSS was founded, is scheduled on May 18th.

How these interactions originate and how they enable the planet to maintain its habitability are complex questions that can only be answered through collaborations between scientists of their respective fields. This workshop aims to bring together scientists from the fields of stellar astrophysics, planetary science, planetary dynamics, geology, and geophysics to discuss fundamental questions regarding the formation, characterization, and detection of habitable planets. Our plan is to facilitate interactions among participants through lectures, presentations and discussion sessions as well as to provide them with ample time to initiate collaborations and carry out their independent research. Our workshop is open to scientists of all levels, in particular junior and early-career researchers.

GeoShanghai is a series of international conferences on geotechnical engineering held in Shanghai quadrennially. The conference was inaugurated in 2006 and was successfully held in 2010, 2014 and 2018, with more than 1600 participants in total. The conference is co-organised with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of Korea, with the participation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the European Commission (EC). KORAD (Korea Radioactive Waste Agency) is the local host of ICGR-7.

There is consensus within the international scientific community that geological repositories can provide the necessary long-term safety and security to isolate long-lived waste from the human environment over extended timescales. Whilst it is feasible to construct these repositories using current technologies, challenges remain in many countries to the development of geological repositories, including building and maintaining public confidence, the availability of skilled staff, and the transfer of information and expertise. The Seventh International Conference on Geological Repositories (ICGR-7) will take place on 27-31 May 2024 in Busan, Korea. The event will bring together high-level decision-makers from regulatory and local government bodies, waste management organisations and public stakeholder communities to review current perspectives of geological repository development.

Over the years, considerable progress has been made understanding the causation of seismicity induced by injection enabling the development of pragmatic risk assessment and management strategies and regulatory frameworks to be developed. Nevertheless, induced seismicity occurrences have continued to spread to new regions with increasing seismicity levels, bringing new stakeholders and challenges into the mix.

Climate change, biodiversity, infectious diseases, sustainability, and the associated socio-economic impacts are among the areas of greatest global concern. The SIAM Conference on Mathematics of Planet Earth (MPE24) provides a forum for interdisciplinary researchers to discuss mathematical, statistical, and computational strategies for addressing these problems. The ISC (International Conference on Geotechnical and Geophysical Site Characterization) conferences are regular events promoted by ISSMGEs TC102 (Technical Committee for Ground Property Characterization from In-Situ Tests) to gather experts and practitioners in the areas of geotechnical characterization, with special emphasis on in situ mechanical and geophysical testing tools and procedures. Since 1998, geotechnical engineers, geologist and geophysicists from all over the world have gathered at ISCs in Atlanta (1998), Porto (2004), Taipei (2008), Recife (2012), Gold Coast (2016) and Budapest (2021) to share their knowledge and experiences.

ICPE2024 Organizing Committee and International Press-in Association

Press-in engineering technique is now commonly employed in many countries to install sheet pile retaining structures, coastal protection facilities and other structures reducing noise, vibration, and time. In some cases, pipe piles have been installed by means of press-in technique for the foundations to support the buildings. The inaugural Press-in Engineering Conference (ICPE2018) was successfully completed in Kochi, Japan in September 2018, and the Second Conference (ICPE2021) was also successfully held receiving many positive feedbacks. Each of the above conferences attracted several hundred participants. As press-in technique is also commonly employed in Singapore and other Southeast Asian countries, Singapore is going to host the third international conference ICPE2024 from 3 to 5 July 2024.

International Commission on Continental Erosion (ICCE)

In July, 2024, the Chair of Physical Geography is proud to host the meeting of the International Commission of Continental Erosion (ICCE) of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS). The topic will be "Sensitivity of erosion and sediment transport to recent climate change". We welcome contributions on a wide range of environments, processes, and scales. The scope includes the reconstruction and measurement of past and present-day processes, the attribution of observed changes to changes in hydrometeorological forcing, and also modelling studies on future developments according to climate projections.

The G-ETS focus on Earth tides and non-tidal loading, such as atmospheric, oceanic and hydrological loading, Earth's variable rotation, geodetic monitoring of reservoirs and volcanoes. Accent is also put on geodetic monitoring of surface deformation and mass redistributions by space techniques (GNSS, GRACE and GRACE-FollowOn, InSAR) as well as to innovative techniques and instruments (for instance cold-atom gravimeters) and their applications to the Earth's dynamics.

The workshop series was initiated in 1987 in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Germany, and workshops usually take place every two years. They have been located throughout Europe, including France, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Italy and Switzerland. The workshops, previously known as International Workshops on Mantle and Lithosphere Dynamics, were renamed in 2018 by the EGU Topical Events Committee in honour of the 19th century English mathematician Ada Lovelace.

he Nordic Geotechnical Meetings have historically been gatherings where geotechnical engineers from the Nordic countries meet and share experiences and knowledge. The history of NGM goes back to 1950 when the first meeting was held in Stockholm, Sweden. Since then, the meeting has been held every 4th year with two exceptions; 1975 and 1984.

IS-Grenoble 2022 will be the fifth quadrennial international symposium organized under the auspices of Technical Committee 105 (Geomechanics from Micro to Macro) of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE). The preceding symposia were held at Yamaguchi University, Japan in 2006, Tongji University, China in 2010, Cambridge University, England in 2014, and Georgia Tech, USA in 2018. As with these previous events, this symposium seeks to advance the objectives of TC 105 to: promote cooperation and exchange of information about the behavior of soil grains and granular interactions; promote improved modeling of soil aggregates; encourage a micro-structural understanding of significant macroscopic behavior; facilitate discussion on the use of micro-structural measurements to enhance soil characterization procedures; and clarify the selection and use of continuum parameters in geotechnical engineering practice.

The 5th European Conference on Physical Modelling in Geotechnics (ECPMG 2024) will be held in Delft, The Netherlands, from October 2nd to 4th, 2024. ECPMG 2024 is organized by ISSMGE's technical committee on Physical modelling (TC 104) and the EU funded GEOLAB project.

GeoMandu is an international conference series of Nepal Geotechnical Society. The First GeoMandu was held on 17-18 March 2023, which was initially planned for May 2021 but due to COVID-19 situation, it was postponed to March 2023.
