Keystone Symposia: State of the Brain - Genetic Dissection of Brain Circuits and Behavior in Health and Disease
14. Jan 2018 - 18. Jan 2018 • Keystone, Vereinigte Staaten
Zusammenfassung:
Identifying and understanding the building blocks of the nervous system and how they interact is a central focus of international efforts to understand the brain. Modern genetic approaches hold the promise of establishing an inventory of cell types, exploring mechanisms of cellular identity, developing tools for experimental manipulations, building a brain-wide cell type atlas, and providing the basis of establishing brain-wide connectivity atlases at cellular resolution. Understanding how diseases and disorders impact cells, synapses and circuitry is essential to guide the development of treatments and therapies. Creating such an atlas of genetically identified cell types and their connectivity will provide key data and knowledge for developing in silico reconstructions of brain circuitry and developing theories of brain structure and function. This conference brings together leading scientists from around the world to present the latest tools, techniques and discoveries in using genetic approaches to understand the cell types of the brain and their role in cognition, behavior and brain diseases and disorders.

17. Jan 2018 - 19. Jan 2018 • Miami, Vereinigte Staaten
Zusammenfassung:
1. Attendees have the opportunity to review the basic, fundamental principles of amyloid PET imaging, including radiochemistry of amyloid agents, radio-tracer synthesis, PET acquisition and data processing, including application of corrections for the partial volume effect and co-registration with structural data.

2. The concept of amyloid positive will be extensively discussed, and the attendees should be able to characterize the advantages and disadvantages of both dichotomized and continuous variable approaches to amyloid PET analyses with respect to specific purposes or intended uses of the outcome.

3. Attendees will have the opportunity to evaluate amyloid PET data in specific clinical and clinical research contexts, including review of typical findings in Alzheimer’s disease dementia, mild cognitive impairment due to Alzheimer’s disease, and in clinically normal individuals. These phenomena will also be related to familial forms of the disease and to non-AD processes such as fronto-temporal lobar degeneration and dementia with Lewy Bodies.

4. Particular attention will be given to the assessment of longitudinal amyloid PET data as it relates to methods of analysis and comparison to other domains of data, including structural and functional brain imaging data, and clinical and cognitive outcomes.

Americas Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis 2018 Forum
01. Feb 2018 - 03. Feb 2018 • San Diego, Vereinigte Staaten
Zusammenfassung:
More than 1,000 scientists and clinicians are expected to attend the third annual Americas Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ACTRIMS) Forum to learn about the latest advances in research and treatment of MS. ACTRIMS Forum 2018 will take place February 1-3 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront in San Diego, California. Themed “Therapeutic Targets in MS: The Frontier and the Future of Disease Modifying Therapy,” this CME-accredited meeting stands apart from many traditional medical meetings by offering a singular track, including sessions this year that focus on blood-brain barrier breakdown, lymphocyte modulating therapies, the effects of microglia and macrophages, astrocyte biology, and oligodendrocytes and their precursors. Young investigators are selected for platform presentations based on submitted abstracts. Neurologists in training learn about career paths in clinical and investigative neuroimmunology at a pre-conference summit. Highlights of the Forum include the Kenneth P. Johnson Memorial Lecture and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Barancik Award presentation and talk. And more than 200 posters provide additional opportunities for investigators to share their findings.

Mathematical Modeling of Cortical Spreading Depression (SD) and Related Phenomena
12. Feb 2018 - 16. Feb 2018 • IMA/University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Vereinigte Staaten
Zusammenfassung:
This workshop will bring together mathematical and computational scientists and experimental researchers studying cortical spreading depression (SD) and related phenomena. SD is a disorder of the central nervous system in which a population of brain cells experience complete depolarization, as associated with a massive redistribution of ion concentrations across the cell membrane. Among the topics to be discussed at the workshop are the relation of SD to other pathological phenomena, including epilepsy. Other topics to be discussed at the workshop include the biophysical basis of SD and the significance of 2D or 3D spatial patterns in SD, as well as electrophysiological control of SD and related phenomena.

2nd HBP Student Conference: Transdisciplinary Research Linking Neuroscience, Brain Medicine and Computer Science
14. Feb 2018 - 16. Feb 2018 • Ljubljana, Slowenien
Zusammenfassung:
In the context of the 2nd HBP Student Conference, young researchers from the fields of neuroscience, brain medicine and computer science receive the possibility to exchange ideas and perspectives and discuss various aspects of their particular fields of expertise relevant to the Human Brain Project. The conference offers a variety of discussion sessions, lectures and social events. Through working across boundaries and linking the various fields, it serves as a platform for both intra- and interdisciplinary exchange and is a great opportunity for extensive scientific discussions among peers and faculty, and also a fertile soil for new, innovative ideas. We are looking for original high-quality submissions containing innovative research from all fields relating to the HBP research programme. Contributions emphasising theoretical and empirical foundations are just as welcome as new approaches to specific questions concerning the Subprojects of the HBP. Finally, we particularly encourage submissions introducing new and relevant problems, concepts and ideas with the potential to inspire the research community – even if the approach is at an early stage of development.

12. Mär 2018 - 14. Mär 2018 • Essen, Deutschland
Zusammenfassung:
We are pleased to welcome you back in Essen. We are again planning a combination of live cases, presentations and discussions. Live cases will go throughout the whole field of intracranial endovascular therapy including aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, dural fistulae, intracranial stenosis and of course treatment of acute stroke by thrombectomy, according to the acute requests that we may receive within these 3 days. We will therefore keep the possibility to disrupt live cases or presentations at any time if an acute stroke is to be treated. We wish to share our ideas on the endovascular management in demanding situations where new technical developments have been replacing the conventional treatment modalities.

Adult Neurogenesis 2018
02. Mai 2018 - 04. Mai 2018 • Dresden, Deutschland
Zusammenfassung:
Adult neurogenesis is distinct from embryonic forms of neurogenesis in that neuronal development underlies extrinsic regulation, from physiological to pathological. This regulation targets different stages of neuronal development, between cell cycle entry and proliferation of radial glia-like stem cells to the lasting integration of the newly generated neurons. There are obvious feedback loops in that regulation of neurogenesis might alter behavior, which in turn acts back on adult neurogenesis. But how does this all work? How does regulation occur across scales? What constitutes ‘causes’ and ‘mechanisms’ in such complex system? The 2018 Adult neurogenesis meeting uses these key questions as entry point into discussions about how activity and development are linked in adult neurogenesis.

Fusion Conference's Targeting Therapy of Alzheimer‘s and Related Neurodegenerative Diseases
01. Jun 2018 - 04. Jun 2018 • Nassau, Bahamas
Zusammenfassung:
Alzheimer‘s disease (AD) is the most common age-dependent neurodegenerative disease, which affects over 5 million people in the US and over 35 million people worldwide. Currently, only four drugs are approved for alleviating symptoms in AD patients, and no new therapy has been approved for AD since 2003. Other related neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease (PD), Huntington’s disease (HD), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) are also age-dependent and lack effective therapies. Hence, finding cures for AD and other related neurodegenerative diseases is urgent and various approaches should be actively pursued.
