Shaping the Future for Pollinators — Shaping the Future for Pollinators Innovations in Farmed Landscapes
11. Nov 2020 - 13. Nov 2020 • Slough-Windsor, Großbritannien
Veranstalter:
The Association of Applied Biologists (AAB)
Zusammenfassung:
The Association of Applied Biologists (AAB) has teamed up with the British Ecological Society and Royal Entomological Society to deliver a 3-day conference “Shaping the Future for Pollinators: Innovations in Farmed Landscapes”. Pollinators play a vital role in maintaining both semi-natural and agricultural ecosystems and healthy populations bolster food security, livelihoods and social wellbeing. With evidence that many species of pollinators are in decline, their conservation and management is of great public, economic and political interest. As a result, the ecology and conservation of managed and wild pollinators is a rapidly growing field of research, alongside the study of their associated ecosystem services. This conference aims to determine how we can shape farmed landscapes to make them resilient to future challenges such as climate change. Delegates will explore the impact of agricultural practices at the farm and landscape scale on pollinator behaviour, ecology and the delivery of ecosystem services. Talks and discussions not only to share current best practices on the sustainable management of pollination services, but explore how novel innovations can create new opportunities and address future risks. This conference aims to bring together researchers, practitioners and policymakers to debate recent advancements in the field of pollinator research; and also to go beyond ecological research to explore emerging technologies within the field. Based just 15 minutes from both London and the historic city of Windsor, delegates will be able to deepen their understanding of the topics, expand their networks, and enjoy the nearby attractions on the approach to Christmas. A public ‘Myth Busting’ event will held locally to raise awareness and increase public understanding of pollinators and pollination services.

7th EGU Galileo Conference: Second workshop on isotope-based studies of water partitioning and plant-soil interactions
28. Jul 2021 - 30. Jul 2021 • Hannover, Deutschland
Veranstalter:
EGU, the European Geosciences Union
Zusammenfassung:
Over the last decade there have been tremendous advances in both technological development and process-based understanding of ecohydrological processes. Along with these, several long-standing assumptions have been questioned and novel, highly debated hypotheses proposed. The workshop addresses the urgent need to share experiences, discuss and advance knowledge about ecohydrological and physiological mechanisms that regulate the selection of different water sources taken up by plants. The workshop aims to gather scientists with different scientific background (hydrology, ecology, plant physiology, soil science, remote sensing, ...) but common research interests in using stable isotopes of water as tracers to study the cycling of water through the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum. We put a special focus on novel and innovative methods for the measurement and application of isotope-based methods, as well as interdisciplinary studies.
Themen:
Water partitioning at various interfaces, Determination of root water uptake depths using isotope-based methods , Partitioning of Evapotranspiration in its components , Mixing models , Methodological advances in monitoring water stable isotopes , Advances in continuous monitoring techniques of soil and plant water isotopes , Extraction methods and related issues, Plant physiological aspects and constraints related to water partitioning , Combining water stable isotopes and other tracers to improve the understanding of ecohydrological processes, Isotopic labeling and multi-tracer applications (2H, 18O, 15N, 13C) , Large-scale studies employing water stable isotopes and upscaling of field studies , Novel approaches in combining isotope-based methods with remote sensing , Development and application of isotope-enabled models
